It was announced on July 14 that Archie Andrews, star of the famous comic book Life With Archie, will be killed in the July 16 issue of the comic. Archie Dies: Iconic Comic Character Saves Gay Best Friend Kevin Keller From A Bullet
The death of Archie, the iconic freckle-faced character, will mark the beginning of the end of the famous comic Life With Archie. The Archie comics spin-off series was released in 2010 and has followed the heroic Archie and his friends as adults in Riverdale.
“The way in which Archie dies is everything that you would expect of Archie. He dies heroically. He dies selflessly. He dies in the manner that epitomizes not only the best of Riverdale but the best of all of us. It’s what Archie has come to represent over the past almost 75 years,” said Jon Goldwater, Archie Comics publisher and co-CEO.
Jon adds that the comics wanted to do “something impactful.”
Their decision to create something impactful led to the idea that Archie would save Kevin Keller, his gay best friend, from a bullet. Kevin is a married veteran and newly-elected senator who is, ironically, fighting for more gun control in Riverdale.
The survival of Kevin leads to the birth of a new Riverdale.
