The World Cup is getting down to just the final teams! Argentina and Belgium faced off for the World Cup quarterfinals on July 5. It was an incredible game, but Argentina proved to be the ultimate winner by defeating Belgium 1-0.
With just six teams left in the World Cup, each game gets more and more intense. Argentina and Belgium took to the field on July 5 for the quarterfinals, with Argentina walking away the winner of 1-0 game and heading into the semi-finals.
Argentina Defeats Belgium In World Cup Quarterfinals
Argentina and Belgium hit the field on July 5 to prove who would advance on to the World Cup semi-finals. Argentina beat Belgium 1-0 for the win.
After defeating the USA team 2-1 and knocking their World Cup dreams to the ground, Belgium had their eyes on the prize. However Argentina wasn’t going to make it easy for them.
With just eight minutes into the game, Argentina’s Gonzalo Higuaín made an incredible goal which put Argentina up 1-0. Gonzalo nearly scored again at 81 minutes in, but the ball unfortunately tipped the top of the goalpost.
Belgium made a last ditch effort to tie the game with almost goals, but to no avail.
On behalf of all the United States, that’s what you get, Belgium. This is the first time since 1990, when Argentina were the runners-up, that the team has advanced to the semi-finals.
Argentina play in the semi-finals and face the winner of the Netherlands vs. Costa Rica game, which is set to play July 5 at 4:00 pm ET.
