Anthony Cumia, a co-host on the super-popular Sirius XM radio show ‘Opie & Anthony,’ has been fired by the satellite radio company after a series of tweets earlier this week.

Anthony Cumia went on a Twitter rant on the morning of July 2 — and now it has cost him his job. Sirius XM has officially announced that one-half of Opie & Anthony has been fired from the radio network after a twitter rant that many have deemed racist and offensive to women.

Anthony Cumia: ‘Opie & Anthony’ Co-Host Fired From Sirius XM Over Racist Tweets

Anthony says he was taking photos in New York City’s Times Square on July 1 when he was allegedly attacked by an African American woman who didn’t want her photo taken. Anthony told his Twitter followers that the woman punched him in the face.

One day after the alleged attack, Anthony went on a Twitter tirade — and that’s when he posted racist and offensive posts about African Americans and women. The tweets have since been deleted, but people quickly snapped screenshots of what he posted during his tirade.

During Anthony’s tweet spree, he called the woman who allegedly attacked him an “animal b*tch,” a “savage” and said “they aren’t people,” allegedly alluding to African Americans. He also called the woman “pig face worthless.”

“She’s lucky I was a white legal gun owner or she’d be dead,” Anthony tweeted Wednesday, according to New York Daily News. “Then 5 blacks started giving me s–t!”

On July 4, SiriusXM said in a statement: “The decision was made, and Cumia informed, late Thursday, 3 July after careful consideration of his racially-charged and hate-filled remarks on social media.”

Anthony’s twitter feed has been scrubbed clean of the tweets — the last tweets his followers can see posted are from January of this year.

Opponents of Anthony’s firing say his right to free speech is being infringed on, while others applaud SiriusXM’s swift action in getting Anthony off the air after a hurtful and offensive rant.

To those of you who defend Cumia_______sure he, like all of us have the right of free speech, however we should be mindful of the fact that, with every choice, there is a consequence.

It’s human nature to blame an entire race of people when they’ve been wronged by one. I would expect more from a public figure; thus, Sirius did the right thing. By the way, there’s more black on black crime than black on white. Lastly, blacks are not the only race that commits crime…..do we really want to get into school shootings? No we don’t.

Yes and there is also more black on white crime than white on black. What does that say?

I think it depends on where you live @Inigo.
Some places have more black on black crime.
Other places have more white on white crime.
Overall it’s just human on human crime. Although a black person will more likely go to jail for a longer stretch then a white person. If convicted.

The death toll from school shootings does not even come close to the numbers dead from gang violence, and the victims there are often innocent bystanders, often children. These stories don’t get as much coverage on the news networks because they don’t get as many viewers for this. News reporting is a business like anything else.

You are a boob. You find it racist, because you were TOLD it was racist. Why don’t you read the content and think for yourself? If you want to know who is defending this, just search for #StandWithAnt. There is plenty of support.

People do have a right to be racist, disgusting as that may be. I choose not to stand with someone who lost his job because of his own stupidity, not to mention the fact that he’s probably lying his butt off.

There’s no racism on Anthony’s part. If there was it doesnt matter. Free speech means all speech. Even if you don’t like what’s being said. Even if it’s completely wrong we should not be afraid to voice our opinions for fear of being unemployed

Free speech is free speech.
Sure you should be allowed to say whatever you want. That doesn’t mean you should.
Plus,if you are going to say whatever you want. You should be ready to deal with the consequence of your actions.
If that means you get fired, then that was a choice you made.
Even if you aren’t on the clock, the things you do and say will effect your work environment.
We have to work with people from all walks of life, nationalities, colors, etc.
By ranting the things he did, those at his job are now looking at him in a whole other light right now.
His bosses were right to give him his walking papers.

That is the reason I don’t do social media at all.
If I want someone to know something. I call them or talk to them in person.
That way there is no electronic or paper trail.
Nobody can throw anything I said back at me, from months ago, unless they heard it straight from me. No one can misinterpret what I said or how I said it. If they have a problem with something I’ve said, they can ask me.
I won’t have to say I got hacked and didn’t write that. My family photos are safe in photo albums not out there for the world to see.
If you use these things , to say anything. You have to be prepared for what comes with it.

Opie and Anthony have been total douche bags (they were at least somewhat funny douchebags) since their WAAF days. They got fired from there too, admittedly for a really trumped up reason, but still…I’ve heard some of their newer shows here and there and they stopped being funny a long time ago it seems. It’s probably time they moved on to some other line of work anyway.

Right or wrong is not the issue here. Freedom of speech, it must be defended.

THIS IS NOT A FREEDOM of speech issue. The law in the U.S. especially Bill of Rights matters.. is supposed to be narrowly interpreted. The right to free speech doesn’t cover this…he was being a douchebag, plain and simple and deserves to be fired for it, hell the laws against hate speech should probably be invoked and he should do jail time. If I used similar comments in my work place you can be sure I’d be ushered out the door in a big damn hurry.

Bill, there is a major difference between your job and Anthony’s job. SirusXM specifically hired him to say outrageous things, and make jokes at others’ expense. Jiffy Lube does not pay you to insult people, so yeah, I guess you would be fired.

You do realize Anthony Cumia still has his right to free speech, right?

You do realize that not having a radio show has nothing to do with free speech, right?

You do realize that Anthony Cumia can still say what he wants, post online what he wants, broadcast his views on a podcast and offer it to fans, email his opinions to you, send a newsletter to you that is chock full of his speeches, he can even still walk down the street yelling his views, all without government interference, right?

You do realize that free speech under the Constitution simply means the government can suppress your statements, right?

Okay just checking that you weren’t a total moron.

Your free speech stops when it demonizes an entire race of people. If he doesn’t want to be fired by a private company for his tweets, he should start his own business.

It is downright pathetic how many people have no clue what the right to free speech means. This moron got fired from his job. He did NOT get arrested. He was NOT imprisoned. He will NOT be prosecuted. The government couldn’t care less what Cumia wrote or said. The U.S. Constitution does not guarantee everyone the unalienable right to have a radio show on Sirius.

What’s downright pathetic is we are doing it to each other. Why can you get fired for expressing your right to free speech. That’s a problem. Your boss get to decide what you can and can’t say in you personal life? He is being persecuted by all of you.

I wonder if he’d been fired if he hadn’t put race into the rants?
Had he went off just saying that woman and those 5 people started giving me s**t.
Without using a race attached to hid rant, would he have just been cautioned and not fired?

I doubt this even happened the way Cumia claims it did. He posted a photo of a woman walking under a scaffold. He claimed that she walked into his frame, but who takes a photo of a scaffold? And if she just walked into the frame, why is she so perfectly centered in the photo? Plus, this is Times Square, the busiest intersection in the world with cops & security cameras everywhere, yet no one else claims to have witnessed this incident — in broad daylight. I suspect Cumia deliberately photographed the woman. She got ticked off and cursed him out. He called her the c word and she slapped him — and she shouldn’t have done that. If Curmia had really gotten beaten down by a crowd of people, he would have called the cops. Then he would have posted photos of his injuries to back up his story. No cops, no injuries, no story.
