Tina Fey has just signed on to produce an upcoming untitled ‘Hocus Pocus’ sequel, based on the 1993 cult hit starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. Details below!
Our ’90s-loving hearts can hardly even deal with this news: Tina Fey is set to produce an upcoming sequel to Hocus Pocus, the 1993 family film about three witches who get resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts and wreak havoc until they’re stopped by one boy, the girl he likes, his little sister, and a talking cat.
Tina Fey In ‘Hocus Pocus’ Sequel?
As literally thrilling as this news is, there’s no word yet on whether Tina will appear in front of the camera or not, according to TrackingBoard‘s report.
The sequel will take place years after the Sanderson sisters (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Bette Midler) were vanquished for the final time, and will center around a housewife (Tina? We hope?), related to the Sanderson sisters, who has to team up with a witch hunter to save her children from resurrected witches. That town really has a problem with resurrecting out-for-blood witches.
No Actors Are Attached To The ‘Hocus Pocus’ Sequel — Whom Do You Want To See Star?
There are currently no actors attached to the project, but it would be awesome to see a Heat-like scenario between the housewife and the witch hunter. She’s a buttoned-up housewife, and she’s a witch hunter who breaks all the rules… We can just picture the trailer now.
News broke back in April that a sequel to Hocus Pocus was in the works, but wheels will start spinning (albeit slowly) now that Tina is on board with her production company, Little Stranger. Little Stranger is also behind 30 Rock, of course, and The Nest — the upcoming comedy which will see Tina co-starring with BFF Amy Poehler.
UPDATE 07/02: Disney has signed Tina Fey to a film currently titled Untitled Witch Project and not to a Hocus Pocus sequel, confirms Deadline. Reeeeal bummed about this one. Fingers crossed it will still be about a housewife and a witch hunter, because we are down for that buddy-cop dynamic!
So, HollywoodLifers, are you pumped about this sequel? Who would you want to see in the starring roles? What about as the witch-resurrecting children? Any teen stars you’d like to see in a Tina Fey comedy? Let us know!
