We may be a long way away from Halloween, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good scary movie! HollywoodLife.com caught up with the stars of ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ at the premiere on June 24 including lead Eric Bana, who spilled about the supernatural ‘insanity’ on set and how he ended up at ‘the bar’ after filming.
Deliver Us From Evil is the first downright scary movie of the summer and it’s based off of true events! The film, being released on July 2, follows a New York police officer (Eric Bana) as he investigates frightening and otherworldly cases while on the job. HollywoodLife.com talked to the film’s stars — Eric Bana and Joel McHale — at the June 24 premiere hosted by Screen Gems and The Cinema Society and they revealed “insanity” on set and how Joel thought he “tricked” an entire movie studio.
‘Deliver Us From Evil’: Eric Bana Talks Supernatural ‘Insanity’ On Set
Deliver Us From Evil is not for the easily scared. The film details an NYPD sergeant’s life on the job as he encounters the crazy and disturbing supernatural. Officer Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana), an actual person, teams up with an unorthodox priest (Edgar Ramirez) to help hinder the terrifying demons that are taking over the city.
At the June 24 premiere, hosted by Screen Gems and The Cinema Society, HollywoodLife.com got the chance to talk to leading man Eric about his time dealing with such horror and how it’s opened his mind to more supernatural beliefs.
“I’m quite skeptical but I definitely have my mind opened a little bit by hanging out with Ralph and Scott [director] and learning more about the kind of cultural, religious aspects of the subject matter,” Eric said in a group interview.
“The exorcism sequence [his favorite scene] at the end of movie which was just a week of insanity, but crazy and fun at the same time.”
Eric jokingly admits that after a long day of dealing with such horrifying and downright scary subject matter that he ended up at “the bar.” (At least he’s honest.)
Joel McHale Teases His First Scary Movie Role & His Big Trick
Joel McHale also stars in the film as Butler, who is very different from any of Joel’s previous roles. Butler loves to stir up trouble and pushes everyone’s buttons a little too far. Joel discussed his thrilling new role and how he thought he “tricked” everyone.
“Believe me, when I got the role I was thrilled to get it,” Joel revealed in a group interview. “I was so happy. Scott Derickson’s a genius and to get to work with Eric Bana and Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn and Sean Harris? I felt like I had tricked an entire movie studio.”
Good one, Joel!
The after party was at The Skylark and the guests drank Qui Tequila cocktails — renamed Priest’s Potion and Dark Spirit for the film.
