How sad! Robert Downey Jr.’s 20-year-old son was arrested on June 29 and put it jail for possession of cocaine!
A member of the L.A. County Sheriff’s pulled over a car in West Hollywood, Cali. around 2 PM PST on June 29 when seeing a passenger smoking a pipe — that was Robert Downey Jr.‘s son, Indio Downey. When the car was searched, the police reportedly found cocaine in his possession.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Son Arrested
Following his arrest, Indio posted his $10,000 bail late on June 29 and was released in the early hours on the 30th, according to TMZ.
“Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale,” a rep for RDJ told HollywoodLife.com after the arrest.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Rocky Path
The genetic component is from Indio’s father, actor RDJ. In 1992, Robert married Deborah Falconer and they had Indio together the following year. However, he was going down a troubled path — and was repeatedly getting into trouble with drugs.
His first arrest was in ’96 for being under the influence in his truck. Two weeks after, he was arrested again for passing out under the influence in a neighbor’s house. In ’99, he failed to show up for drug tests and was sentenced to three years in a substance abuse facility and prison. He only served a year, and was let out. Then in 2000, he was arrested on charges of cocaine and methamphetamine possession.
Then, while on parole he was found in LA high and in 2001, his wife left him and took Indio, so he wouldn’t be around the lifestyle.
This stemmed from his childhood — in ’98 he admitted that he grew up with “a lot of pot and coke around,” and that his dad would do drugs with him. “It was like him trying to express his love for me in the only way he knew how,” he said in an interview for The New Breed. He said he had been a drug addict since the young age of 8.
RDJ finally got his life together by 2003 and has been sober ever since. He also came to a custody agreement with his wife for Indio.
We hope that Indio can get on the right track, and we’re wishing him all the best.
