How very sad. Meshach Taylor, a legendary movie and TV actor who starred in shows like ‘Designing Women’ and movies like ‘Mannequin,’ has died at the age of 67, according to his family.
Meshach Taylor, who was nominated for an Emmy for his role as Anthony Bouvier on Designing Women, died on the evening of June 28 at his family’s home in Altadena, California after battling illness. What a loss for Hollywood.
Meshach Taylor: TV & Movie Actor Dies At 67
Meshach is best known to the world for playing unforgettable roles like Hollywood Montrose in the 1987 hit movie Mannequin, but the actor was also an activist and father.
Meshach was surrounded by his family at his home in Altadena, where he was receiving hospice care, when he passed away away at 10:47 p.m. on June 28, his son Tariq Taylor confirms to the LA Times.
“It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic, Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition,” the family confirmed in a Facebook post on June 27, one day before he died.
Meshach is also known for his roles on TV shows like Dave’s World, The Drew Carey Show, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide and Hannah Montana. Most recently, he was seen on two episodes of Criminal Minds.
Meshach was born in Boston to two professors. He began his career in a national tour of the musical Hair and never stopped acting. In 1983, Meshach married his wife Bianca Ferguson. They have four children: Tamar, Esme, Yasmine and Tariq. Meshach also has four grandchildren. He was an activist who fought for the rights of people in the LGBT community.
Meshach had been fighting a long, terminal illness, CNN reports.
