Olympian Alysia Montano Runs 800 Meter Race At 8 Months Pregnant
This is so inspiring.
An Olympian athlete just completed an 800 meter race at 8 months pregnant. That’s right, Alysia Montano ran an entire 800 meters while carrying a baby in her 8th month of pregnancy. Amazing!
Even though Alysia came in last place, she completed the race from start to finish in just 2:32.13, reports NBC Sports. That is a huge accomplishment, even with her placement. The crowd watching was fully aware of Alysia’s accomplishment, and in response to her big finish they gave her a standing ovation.
Well deserved, for sure!
Alysia Decided To Compete One Month Before The Race
In an interview after the big race, Alysia revealed that she has been running all throughout her pregnancy. The decision to race in the 800 meter was made just one month before the event date, and came only after discussing whether or not it was a safe idea with her doctors.
Once her medical team have her the green light, Alysia was ready for the race.
“My midwives and doctors were so encouraging,” she told Competitor in an interview. “You are a professional runner. Your threshold, you lactate levels are going to be completely different than anybody else’s. That took away any fear of what outside world might think of a pregnant woman running, or exercising in general.”
