Congrats, Michelle! After being tied for the win, the 24-year-old pro golfer came out on top, winning the 2014 U.S. Open and beating world number one, Stacy Lewis. Way to go!

The U.S. Women’s Golf Open is a dream to win for any golfer, and Michelle Wie finally made that dream her reality for the first time in Pinehurst, North Carolina on Sunday, June 22. Michelle took first place in the elite competition, despite some serious early difficulties in her course, but not even the near loss of a ball at hole 16 could stop her!

Michelle Wie Wins 2014 U.S. Women’s Open

Michelle Wie has been considered a prodigy in the golfing world since the age of 10 when she became the youngest player to qualify for a USGA amateur championship so it’s safe to say, her 2014 U.S. Open win was well-deserved!

Michelle defeated the world number one, Stacy Lewis, 29, who took second place, as well as third place victor, Stephanie Meadow, the Irish 22-year-old making her pro golf debut at the Open.

Wie’s rounds of 68-68-72 and her final even-par 70 round gave her a 2-under-par 278 finish for the tournament overall.

Second place winner, Stacy, ended up with a tournament-tying low round of 66, and third place golfer, Stephanie, rounded up with a great professional debut result of 69.

11-year old, Lucy Li, also competed in the qualifier for the tournament and although she ended up missing the cut by 8 over par, there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing more of her in the near future — she could be the next Michelle Wie!

Michelle Wie Struggles, But Comes Out On Top

Michelle ultimately took home the victory, but getting there was not easy. She had to take a penalty drop at the 16th hole and survived a double-bogey 6 on the 70th.

“I can’t believe this is happening,” Wie told press after her big win. “I kind of smiled after I made my double-bogey putt (on 16). The putt (on 17) nicely went right at the end and it was nice to go in.”

We’d say “nice” is a small word — it’s amazing to watch Michelle’s career come full-circle with this huge and impressive win. Big congratulations, Michelle!
