Meryl Streep Playing Maria Callas In ‘Master Class’
Meryl Streep will take on the role of the iconic opera star in a film adaptation of the play Master Class for the HBO TV network. The film is a portrait of Maria Callas — an opera diva, told through her recollections of the glories, triumphs, and tragedies of her own life and career.
The Tony Award-winning play was written by Terrence McNally and opened on Broadway in 1995. In the play, Maria reflects back on her life and career while teaching a class at the famous Julliard school in New York City. All the while indulging in quite the love affair with Aristotle Onassis. Scandalous!
As for details on the film, at this moment it has not been revealed whether or not the Mamma Mia! actress will do any singing for the role, but we will keep our fingers crossed!
