With Season 4 of ‘Game Of Thrones’ over, it’s time for the wild speculation about Season 5 to begin! Will Myrcella Baratheon be recast for the upcoming season?
Game Of Thrones fans haven’t seen Myrcella Baratheon (Aimee Richardson) since she was shipped off to Dorne for her own protection in Season 2. With rumors that Season 5 will feature more of Dorne, the southernmost end of Westeros and home to the Martells, it looks like the 16-year-old actress may be recast. More details below, but beware of some spoilers for Season 5!
‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 5 Casting Spoilers: Myrcella Baratheon To Be Recast
Rumor has it that Nell Tiger Free, a young British actress who last appeared in the BBC adaptation of Mr. Stink, is the new Myrcella Baratheon, according to sources at WinterIsComing. Myrcella is not the only Lannister spawn who has been recast — in Season 4, Tommen was also recast, the role going from Callum Wharry to Dean Charles-Chapman.

The recasting lends credence to the rumors that Season 5 will heavily feature Dorne; indeed, other casting calls for Season 5 have certainly pointed in that direction.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Spoilers: Season 5 Will Take Place In Dorne
While Aimee did a lovely job with Myrcella, if the GoT showrunners ever wanted to replace her, now would be the time; if Season 5 takes place in Dorne, Myrcella will have a much meatier role. Cersei’s only daughter is betrothed to Prince Trystane of Dorne, and while readers didn’t really get her perspective on the betrothal in A Feast For Crows — the fourth book on which Season 5 will mainly be based — sources at WiC have revealed that their romance will be played up, and we’ll see Myrcella fall in love with her handsome prince.
‘Game Of Thrones’: Season 5 Will Take Place In Dorne, Showrunners Confirm
WiC makes the excellent point that it makes sense to give Myrcella a more prominent role in the storyline, as it connects viewers with the characters they already know. Many have criticized A Feast For Crows for moving quite slowly and for placing such a huge emphasis on brand new characters when really, all we want to know is what’s up with the rest of Westeros.
So, HollywoodLifers, what do you think about Myrcella’s recasting? If you’ve read the ASoIaF series, are you looking forward to seeing a meatier role for her? Are you looking forward to seeing Dorne in Season 5? Let us know!
