So sad. One priest is confirmed dead and another is critically injured after a shooting at Mother of Mercy Mission Catholic Church in Phoenix, Ariz. on June 12.

A shooting at Mother of Mercy Mission Catholic Church in Phoenix, Ariz. left one priest dead and another in critical condition on June 12. Authorities believe the shooting is the result of a botched burglary.

The shooting resulted in one priest’s death and another being critically injured, CNN confirmed.

One of the priest’s called 911 about the attack, which is being described as a burglary gone awry, Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department said.

Both injured priests were taken to the hospital where one later succumbed to his injuries. The other is still hospitalized and in critical condition.

Martos also said that a stolen 2003 Mazda Tribute was later found with no one in it. No word yet on the shooter’s identity.
