Reynolds High School Shooting Victim: Emilio Hoffman, 14
The victim of the Reynolds High School shooting on June 10 has been revealed.
Freshman Emilio Hoffman, just 14 years old, was shot and killed inside the school. It is still unknown whether or not the still unidentified shooter targeted Emilio, or if he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Emilio is being described as a popular student who was very involved in athletics. He played on the JV soccer time in the fall of 2013, and was expected to graduate to varsity for his sophomore year.
Soccer coach Allan Berry said that Emilio was a “nice, quiet young man.”
“I’m sure the boys will choose to make this season for him,” Allan told the Oregonian about the upcoming season.
Teacher Todd Rispler Was Also Injured
The tragic incident happened around 8am on Tuesday, June 10 after a fellow student dressed in all black brought a semi-automatic weapon into the school’s gymnasium building. It has also been reported that the young gunman was also wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest.
Todd Rispler, a teacher, was also injured during the shooting, however his injuries were not life-threatening. After being hurt, Todd rushed to the main office to initiate a school-wide lockdown. During the lockdown, students and teachers were required to turn off their classroom lights and huddle together on the floor while keeping away from the windows and doors.
Once Portland Police arrived on the scene, they were reportedly able to corner the gunman in a bathroom inside the school’s locker room. The gunman is said to have taken his own life while sitting on a toilet, according to the Daily Mail.
Our thoughts go out to Emilio’s family and friends, as well as the entire community of Troutdale at this difficult time.
