Casey Kasem’s Daughters To Remove Him From Life Support

How very sad. After a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and various other health problems, 82-year-old radio legend Casey Kasem is being taken off life support, according to a new report. For years now, Casey Kasem's family has been in turmoil about the American DJ legend's healthcare and support. Casey's wife of 34 years, Jean Kasem, and Casey's children have been in a legal battle over where and how Casey should receive healthcare. Casey's daughter Kerri Kasem was awarded conservatorship of her father on May 12 -- and now she and Casey's other children have made a VERY tough decision about their father's health.

Casey Kasem: Life Support To Be Removed? Daughters Pushing For Action

Casey’s children have made the difficult decision to withhold fluids, medication and food — and they will spend their father’s last days right by his side, according to TMZ. After a tumultuous court battle, Superior Court Judge Daniel Murphy determined on June 11 that it is legal for his daughter to make the ultimate decision to stop life support.

Casey’s children opened up to TMZ about what their father’s health directive (it’s a legal document that explains what a person wants to happen if they can no longer make their own decisions about their health) states. “If the extension of my life would result in mere biological existence, devoid of cognitive function, with no reasonable hope for normal functioning, then I do not desire any form of life-sustaining procedures, including nutrition and hydration,” Casey’s children explain.

Casey is currently residing in a Washington hospice. We hope Casey’s children find the peace they need right now as their family deals with this very difficult decision.

Inside Casey Kasem’s Years-Long Family Battle

Jean and Casey’s children have been fighting since 2007, when Casey’s daughter Julie Kasem claimed that Jean forbid her and her siblings to see Casey while his health declined. Jean reportedly ended all communication with Casey’s children (even though his daughter had power of attorney) and wouldn’t allow anyone to visit Casey, according to CNN.
