hahahah the guy is telling it like it is and most agree with him. Wtf was wrong with tontalist that he couldn’t race in the Kentucky derby and Preakness? Tontalist won one race and California Chrome won two, but Chrome’s owner has a legit point and it should be looked into.

Sometimes the truth hurts, but it’s still the truth. Tonalist obviously wasn’t a good enough horse to race three races, so they didn’t run him in the other two races. I think the guy is right and dead on with this one. A horse who didn’t compete in the first two races have an unfair advantage on the ones who did. Time to change the rules and play fair.

Why change the rules now? When Secretariat & Affirmed ran they ran against horses that had never ran in the Kentucky Derby or @ Pemlico(& still won the Triple Crown) California Chrome just didn’t have the juice at Belmont (his jockey took him from the inside rail to the far outside, he also held him back when the gate opened) There used to be only 2 wks between each race now there’s a month between the Derby & Belmont….California Chrome’s owners need to get the hell over it…

I grew up in a racing family and you learn to be a realist. That means you need to take your beatings on the chin. If California Chrome had been good enough, he would have won. He didn’t. That owner needs to suck it up and keep his mouth shut; it doesn’t make him look good

No one needs to keep their mouth shut, we live in a free country with freedom of speech. It makes him look REAL that he has spoken what we all see is going on. Tonalist owner looks like a CHEAT and triple crown stealer.

The owners of Tonalist are getting slammed left and right, as they rightfully should be. If your horse is so great then run them in the Kentucky and Preakness before bringing him to the Belmont you twisted fu$ks ruined our chance for a triple crown winner by taking advantage of unfair rules. That makes them the biggest losers in my eyes.

Steve is absolutely correct and I’m glad he finally called it what it is. UNFAIR and basically cheating. Holding a horse back and not putting him in the first two races then running him in the last race against tired horses isn’t a winning horse in my opinion, it’s a crooked cheating owners cheap win. Takes away from the real winners who ran two races before getting to the big one.

If you can’t or won’t run your horse in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness then no way should they be allowed to enter them and run them in the Belmont race against horses who have already run two very hard races. It’s blatantly unfair and the guy said what many have been thinking for years. The cheaters are the ones holding their horses back for the Belmont and denying the horses their triple crown glory that they rightfully earned. I’m happy that someone finally had the guts to say it.

The playing field isn’t level or fair when you can sit your horse out then put him in the big one, while other horses ran both races and are running a third. It’s a sneaky way of cheating and getting away with hit. I understand completely what the guy was saying and he’s speaking the truth. Sometimes people don’t like hearing the truth.

I agree with him. Every horse that races in the Belmont should have to race in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. Not many other sports allow you to skip the first two and only go for the last one. How is that close to being fair to the other horses who ran in the other two races? It’s stacking strong well rested horses against ones who already ran two big races. It’s pretty close to cheating in my eyes.

None of the horses were that good this year. look at the times of the races. the belmont was 4.56 seconds from the record. that might be a record. I can’t imagine a horse to win the crown going so slow.

It amazes me how ignorant these comments are. The Triple Crown is not a tournament, but three individual races that predate the Triple Crown’s origin in this country.. The winner of this race qualified for this race and had ever right to be there running. Every other winner of the Triple Crown faced the same challenges and somehow they managed.

Except for Citation, who ran a race between the Preakness and the Belmont and still won.

Time for the popcorn. These aren’t “ignorant” comments because they disagree with your educated viewpoint. Maybe we’re also racist. Last time I looked we still had free speech in this country. In my opinion, it isn’t a level playing field the way it is being done now. Will it change? Never. My opinion doesn’t make me ignorant. You have your opinion and I have mine.

It amazes me how you can call other people ignorant. The rules are a bit unfair to the horses who have already run in two other races, whether the horse qualified for the Belmont race or not. The rules should be changed, if you don’t run your horse in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness you shouldn’t be allowed to come in and enter your horse at the Belmont and deny a horse a triple crown title. It’s not that hard to see the UNFAIRNESS in the way their doing it.

Did the owner somehow not understand the rules prior to the Kentucky Derby? Horsefeathers!

The rules are unfair and need to be changed. Tonalist didn’t win $hit but a bunch of criticism. If that horse is so great why couldn’t he run in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness? Do you think he wouldn’t won the Belmont if he had run the other two races? Not a chance, that’s why the owners sat him out and waited.

Why should this be any different than the World Series or Super Bowl? You wouldn’t have a non-contender enter those at the last minute. It is a grueling schedule and there will only be one Secretariat. After 37 years and no Triple Crown winner, it seems obvious to me that they should revisit the rules at least.

i think in part he had a good point about fresh horses coming in to the race but if calaforina chorm was a great horse he would had beaten this field ihave watched raceing for fifty five and seen plenty of good horses this horse will go into the books as a good horse but will no be in the book of great horses

I agree with him. Those horses who have run in the other races ran their hearts out all three times, while Tonalist comes in from out of nowhere, fresh as a daisy, and wins it out form under them. It isn’t fair.

Well then maybe YOU shouldn’t have raced your horse in the final leg – considering he isn’t bred to get the 1-1/2 mile distance, moron.

Maybe Tonalist owner should have MANED UP and run his dam horse in the Kentucy derby and the Preakness if he’s so good. Did he do that? Nope sat his horse out and just ran him against tired horses who’ve ran in the other two races. That’s the chicken $hits way out and he won by default and cheating! The rules need to be changed.

Then maybe Tonalist wasn’t bred to race three races since they took the chicken $hit way out and sat him out and only brought him in for an upset. I didn’t think they realized how much of a backlash they would receive for being cheaters and bigger morons.

I agree with the guy. The other horse owner didn’t run his horse in the other two races and until they change the rules, it’s always going to be unfair to the horses who have ran two races, and an advantage to the ones who are well rested.

The Triple Crown has been like this for years. This guy is a poor loser. The idea of the three races is that the winner takes on everybody. Plenty of them have won over “fresh” rivals. Some get beaten by the same horses they ran with two other times.. Take Tonalist out and you still have Chrome beaten by at least TWO other horses. He couldn’t do it. Get over it. Let’s not change the rules for some guy who wants to ride his “everyman” persona to fame. BTW, it takes a lot more MONEY to start a horse in any of these races than your basic “everyman” has.

Lets start doing other competitons like this then, lets put the tired guys against the well rested ones. Does that sound right? If they don’t run in the first two races then they shouldn’t be allowed to run the last one. It’s pretty simple.
