Steve should have made his complaint known BEFORE the race .. and if he did not like the rules cold have pulled his horse from the race .. and not behave like a poor loser .. I’m somewhat surprised and disappointed by his AFTER the race behavior .. :-)

Teams that don’t earn a spot in hockey don’t play for the Stanley Cup. Horses in a series like the Triple Crown should have to compete all the way through. It’s a spoiled system when it’s run this way. Just ask a horse.

I was sad when California Chrome didn’t get the triple crown, but my sadness turned to anger when I found out Tonalist didn’t even race in the other two races. That is a bit unfair and I’m glad the owner of California Chrome said it.

Unfortunately this is the way it’s set up. You have 3 races, you can race your horse in all 3 or in 1 or in 2 if your horse qualifies. I was disappointed that California Chrome didn’t win the triple crown and it does seem a bit unfair that the horse who won, didn’t race in either other race but that’s the way they have it set up and that’s why we rarely see a triple crown winner.

He’s pretty spot on and telling the truth. No doubt that horses who didn’t race in the other two races have a very unfair advantage that’s why some owners choose not to race them and save them for the Belmont. It has only become an issue this year though, because the triple crown was on the line which doesn’t happen very often and tonalist upset that hope everyone had, so instead of celebrating tonalist win people are pissed they’re wasn’t a triple crown winner.

Why do you think it’s been 36 years since there was a triple crown winner? It’s because these owners don’t race their horses in all three races for strategic reasons and upset any chance a horse had of being a triple crown winner. They’ve been doing this for years. Here comes a good horse who won the first two races, then an idiot puts his horse in the Belmont that didn’t run in either race and he upsets the triple crown win. I think they get off on it in some twisted demented way. I’m glad this guy spoke up, it’s about time someone told what is really going on with some of these horse owners.

so the other 23 years since when no triple crown was one the line who should have been left to run in the Belmont, all the crappy horses that didn’t win in the first two races ? This is Belmont Parks signature race, and was long before anyone heard of a Triple Crown, and to change things would cheapen the accomplishment. Steve Coburn is definatly a DAP
