Less than a week after Maleficent opened in theaters on May 30, Disney announced that the famous animated movie, Beauty and the Beast is set to become a live-action movie. There is no word yet on who will be cast to play Belle or the Beast, but we can’t wait!

‘Beauty And the Beast’: Disney Making Live-Action Film

Due to the overwhelming success of Maleficent, Disney decided to take one of its beloved films and turn it into a live-action movie. We cannot wait to see how this new version compares to the original!

In 1992, Beauty and the Beast was the first full-length animated feature film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, as well as Original Song (twice) and Original Score — and it won two!

Two years later, the film was adapted into a Broadway musical and was on for 13 years, until it closed in 2007.

Disney Plans Other Live-Action Films

Bill Condon, 58, is set to direct the film. Bill directed the last two films in the Twilight series and Dreamgirls, which won a 2006 Golden Globe award.

This isn’t the only live-action adaptation Disney has in the works! Currently, Disney is working on Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh, 53; and The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau, 47, according to People.
