‘Game Of Thrones’: Oberyn Martell’s Death Mocked On Twitter
Prince Oberyn (Pedro Pascal) lost his life pretty spectacularly on the June 1 episode of Game Of Thrones in his battle against The Mountain, Gregor Clegane (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson). Where Oberyn was quick, Gregor was strong, and it was a fairly even match.
However, just when it looked like Oberyn had the upper hand over Gregor, stabbing him through the chest with his spear, Oberyn made a fatal mistake: monologuing.
He took his spear out of Gregor’s chest, telling him that he couldn’t die yet because he had to confess. Oberyn demanded that Gregor confess not only to the crime of raping and murdering Oberyn’s sister, Elia Martell, but that he admit that it was Tywin Lanniser (Charles Dance) who ordered for Elia’s execution.
All of that time spent monologuing for justice gave Gregor time to rally; all of a sudden, Gregor grabbed Oberyn by his neck, confessing to his crimes while pressing his thumbs into Oberyn’s eyes and smashing his face to pulp with his bare hands. R.I.P., Oberyn, but you were too cocky!
