So sad. A little boy, 3, accidentally shot his baby brother, 1, in the head after discovering an unsupervised handgun inside their apartment building. How could this have happened?

An Arizona family is suffering a difficult loss today. On Tuesday, May 27, one little boy randomly discovered a gun inside a family friend’s apartment. While playing with the gun, he accidentally shot his little brother in the head. Awful.

Arizona Boy, 3, Shoots Little Brother, 1, In The Head

This is an unbelievable tragedy.

A young mother thought nothing of bringing her two sons to visit with a neighbor and family friend on Tuesday, May 27, in their Payson, Arizona apartment complex.

The boys were playing innocently in the living area of the friend’s apartment when one of them discovered an unsupervised handgun, according to KPHO.

The 3-year-old brought the gun and his little brother into the bedroom so that they could play with it when he pulled the trigger and shot the 1-year-old straight in the head.

Making matters worse, their mother was just seconds away from possibly saving her youngest son’s life. The young mom was walking into the bedroom to check on them at the exact moment the gun went off.

The injured son was rushed to Payson Regional Medical Center where, sadly, he died from his injuries. However, his older brother was not injured.

According to Payson Police Chief Don Engler, the family had only been inside the neighbor’s apartment for 10-15 minutes before the accident occurred.

“This is unbelievable, and our teenagers were saying this is Payson, this doesn’t happen in Payson. Well, it happened, and it hit really close to home for them,” neighbor Suzy Tubbs told KPHO after the tragedy.

Police are currently investigating circumstances around the gun, including how and why it was left unsupervised in a common area.

There is no word on whether or not either of the adult parties involved will be charged.

This is so sad. Our thoughts go out to the boy’s family at this time.

I used to live way out in the woods in northern Idaho where you absolutely positively had to have guns and I never ever kept my guns either 1) some place where a child could reach 2) ESPECIALLY not with a bullet in the chamber! OMG how can anyone keep a loaded gun in their house?! Bullets go one place, the gun in another! If these idiots had followed this basic piece of sense that little child would still be alive SMH!

I don’t know of anyone who would take their eyes off a 3 yr old and 1 yr old, especially at another person’s home.

The parents of the threeyear old should be lock up his brother will have to grow up knowing he shot his brother. What a terrible loss people should not own guns if they don’t know how to put them in a safe place!
