She’s baaaack! After storming back onto the awards show scene with a a performance at the Billboard Music Awards on May 18, Miley continued to re-take the music world with a stunning rendition of “Wrecking Ball” at the World Music Awards on May 27. Take that, Monaco!
If there’s one thing Miley Cyrus knows, it’s awards shows. The World Music Awards in Monaco on May 27 was the latest example of stealing the spotlight at a ceremony, as the singer really spiced things up by busting out a unique performance of “Wrecking Ball” in a chic, strapless floral gown.
Miley Cyrus Sings ‘Wrecking Ball’ At World Music Awards
Miley’s clearly been experimenting with her sound on tour because we’ve heard her sing “Wrecking Ball” a million times, but never like this. With only a piano as accompaniment, Miley breathed new life into her emotional breakup song with changed-up melodies and added emotion.
It was like hearing a whole new song, and yet Miley’s rendition still had that raw vulnerability that makes “Wrecking Ball” such an entrancing hit.
Miley also got plenty of help from her style and stage design. Changing out of the shimmering, long-sleeved Kaufmanfranco gown she wore to the ceremony, Miley stepped out in a couture, floral frock from Giambattista Valli‘s Fall 2012 collection. The dress gave Miley an ethereal and timeless look while her set design — big LED screens projecting pools of color and a psychedelic couch — added a surreal element to the performance.
Miley Cyrus Rocks The Billboard Music Awards
It’s been a pretty big two weeks for Miley. After falling ill in April and postponing concert dates as a result, Miley rushed back onto the scene by performing the Beatles song, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” with The Flaming Lips for the Billboard Music Awards on May 18.
In an outfit that made her look like a more sparkly, more expensive, sexier version of Big Bird, Miley crooned the classic tune and proved that not only is she a sex symbol, but a hip musician who’s also trying to push herself forward. Out of all the great performances at the BBMAs, Miley’s remote performance was a real highlight.
And so was her rendition of “Wrecking Ball” at the World Music Awards. She can’t stop and we don’t ever want her to.
