Alex Preston Elimination Interview: ‘Surprised’ He Made It To The Top 3 On ‘American Idol’
Alex couldn’t be more excited to perform with Jason Mraz in the finale — “it’s going to be awesome,” he told us. “We’re practicing in a couple days and our mutual friends said that he was asking for my number and he’s going to text me within the next couple days. I was like, ‘I’m going to have Jason Mraz in my contacts? No way!’”
“I mean, it hit me. I was like, damn, I can do this for the rest of my life, but I still feel like the same shy kid, I just have a clearer vision of what I want to do,” he continued. We mentioned that he looked totally at home onstage during his hometown visit, and he agreed, telling us that “The energy was crazy. The fire department wouldn’t let any more people in. It was packed. It was awesome.”
As for next steps? “I don’t know yet. I’m technically signed to 19 [Entertainment], so I hope I can get a record out. That’s all I want to do right now – write and record. I have so many artists lined up that I really want to write with.” And he doesn’t want to do anymore covers. And why would he? His original song, “Fairy Tales,” always went over so well with the judges and voting audience — it got him this far, as the song he auditioned with!
Alex Preston Is ‘So Excited’ For The Two-Month-Long ‘American Idol’ Summer Tour
As for what Alex is going to do to prepare for the American Idol summer tour, which kicks off June 24 at the Broome County Arena in Binghamton, New York, he told us: “I am just going to spend as much time with my family and my friends and my girlfriend as I can before I hit the road. It’s two months! It’s going to be awesome, I’m so excited.” He also mentioned that his girlfriend is going on tour, too, and that they would “totally” record together, and they’ve sung together at shows before!
At least he’ll always have an opening act! “Yeah! Or I’ll open for her!” Or he’ll open for Jason Mraz! “Oh shoot, hopefully! That’d be such a fun tour. I can’t even start thinking about that. I’d get too excited.” And what does he think about himself, Jillian, and Alex & Sierra on tour? “[Jillian and I] would just be posers.” So funny.
