Liam Payne is paying tribute to fallen One Direction fan, Nicole Wilson, 15. The dedicated Directioner died on May 2 due to complications with her Type 1 diabetes — just four months before she would finally see the band in concert for the first time.
One Direction Remembers Fallen Fan Nicole Wilson
This is a touching story.
After receiving her first pair of One Direction concert tickets, Nicole Wilson, 15 passed away on Friday, May 2 due to complications from her Type 1 diabetes.
“Sorry to hear about the passing of one of our fans, Nicole. Thoughts are with her family at this time. #SingForNicole,” Liam wrote on Twitter on May 9.
But, how did this happen? How did Liam know about Nicole?
Instead of dwelling on the sad loss of her little sister, Kelly Wilson decided to take action. Their parents were not sure what to do with the concert tickets once they realized that Nicole was gone, but Kelly came up with a brilliant idea: get One Direction to honor Nicole during the August 24 concert in Arlington, Texas.
Kelly started the #SingForNicole tag on Twitter, and continuously wrote to One Direction in hopes they would notice her desperate plea. Hours after she started tweeting, fellow Directioners started to notice, and they started RT’ing Kelly’s messages and even writing their own.
Before Kelly knew it, her #SingForNicole plea had gone viral. That’s how Liam knew.
Kelly Wants One Direction To Honor Nicole
The whole reason Kelly started the #SingForNicole tag was not to garner attention, and it was never a desperate plea for One Direction’s sympathy.
Instead, it was a plea to make Nicole’s dream of being at a One Direction concert come true. By saying something as simple as,” This is for Nicole,” before performing her favorite song “Story Of My Life” at the August 24 show, they would be doing just that — making Nicole’s dreams come true.
Maybe she would not be there physically, but her heart and spirit would be very much present as her friends and family watched from their seats without her.
Liam’s acknowledgement is not a confirmation that they will honor Nicole at the show, but it is a step in the right direction.
