So sad! Not only is Sherri Shepherd going through a divorce, but she’s also reportedly going through a custody battle for her unborn child.
In June 2013, Sherri Shepherd admitted that she and husband Lamar Shelly had found a surrogate mother to carry a child for them. However, after he filed for divorce on May 2, he reportedly also has filed for full legal and physical custody of their unborn child!
Sherri Shepherd’s Child Custody Battle
Lamar actually filed for legal separation, not divorce, because he has only lived in California for three months, and in order to file for divorce, he must be a resident for six. According to TMZ, he will change the status to divorce in another three months.
However, the L.A. Superior Court documents also revealed that the couple are expecting a baby boy on July 28, according to People, who will be named Lamar Sally Jr. and that Lamar wants full legal and physical custody once the baby is born from the surrogate mother.
Sherri, 47, married Lamar in Chicago in August 2011 and if he gets his way, she will only get “reasonable” visitation rights. He also reportedly asked in the papers for an order that would ensure he gets the baby immediately after he’s born.
It doesn’t even stop there — he also wants the prenup they signed invalidated based on fraud.
Sherri Reveals Mother’s Day Plans In Midst Of Custody Battle
Oddly enough, Sherri spoke out to USA Today on May 9 about her son, Jeffrey, from her first marriage, and explained their adorable Mother’s Day plans.
“Jeffrey loves to cook,” she told USA Today about her 9-year-old. “He’ll make eggs — probably with eggshells — which I’m going to eat, and there will probably be way too much salt. And, he’ll eat the bacon before it gets to me. I’m going to love my burnt toast.”
HollywoodLife.com has not received comment from Sherri yet.
