After a young girl, 11, was found suffocated and covered by a quilt in her own home, police spent eight months interviewing over a dozen different suspects. Now, police have finally arrested a boy, 15, and charged him with murder and first-degree rape. How awful.
McKenzie Sessoms, 11, was found dead on the couch by her father just hours after being sexually assaulted and suffocated by one of her brother’s friends.
Girl, 11, Raped & Murdered By Brother’s Friend, 15
This is just a terrible story all around.
McKenzie, just 11 years old, was raped and suffocated on a couch in the living room of her family home in Salemburg, North Carolina. She was found unresponsive by her father just hours after the horrific incident occurred, covered by a quilt, reports the Daily News.
After a grueling eight month investigation that led police to interview over a dozen different suspects, they finally arrested and charged a boy, 15, on May 7. He has since been charged with murder and first-degree rape, and investigators are now preparing for a trial.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the boy happened to be a close friend of McKenzie’s brother. He was reportedly spending the night at the family’s home after McKenzie’s brother threw a party.
Even though McKenzie’s family will never get her back, they now have peace of mind knowing that her murderer has been caught and will face consequences.
McKenzie’s Murdered Had Been Banned From The Home
Multiple reports about the boy and his identity have surfaced, with some sources close to the Sessoms family claiming the boy had previously upset McKenzie’s parents and been banned from the home.
The boy had allegedly made “vulgar” comments towards McKenzie, which is what prompted her parents to ban the boy from their house.
According to reports, he also lived directly next door to the Sessoms, along with his father and grandfather.
“If he done it, I’m glad they got him. That’s all I can say,” the boy’s grandfather told local ABC reporters.
