Fans are saying goodbye to ‘The Colbert Report’ come January 2015 when Stephen Colbert takes over for David Letterman — and Larry Wilmore will be filling that Comedy Central slot!
Larry Wilmore is making moves! The “Senior Black Correspondent” on Jon Stewart‘s The Daily Show just got his own show, our sister site Variety reported. The Minority Report will air weeknights at 11:30 PM, the slot that The Colbert Report currently airs!
Larry Wilmore Replacing Stephen Colbert
Jon Stewart‘s Busboy Productions will produce the new show, The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore. The idea for the show, and the time slot, actually came from Jon, Michele Ganeless, president of Comedy Central said in an interview on May 9.
The show will provide “a distinct point of view and comedic take on the day’s news from a perspective largely missing in the current late night landscape,” and will feature “a diverse panel of voices currently underrepresented in comedy and television,” according to Comedy Central. It will have a panel led by Larry on the issues of the day, in a scripted, comedic format.
Larry Wilmore’s Comedic Past
Larry is no stranger to comedy — he’s been a regular on The Daily Show since 2006, and has been a successful writer for TV ever since creating The Bernie Mac Show. He has also written for other shows like In Living Color, The Office, The Jamie Foxx Show and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. He is also an author and actor!
Larry was listed as an executive producer on ABC’s new show Black-ish that was announced this week, and was set to be the show runner — of course, he won’t be able to do so with his new job!
Do you think it’s a good choice, HollywoodLifers?
