New, sexy enemies were on the loose and making plays toward Matty. Did Jenna win him back? Read on to find out what went down.
Who said senior year was going to be easy? On the May 6 episode of Awkward, Jenna (Ashley Rickards) dealt with Matty (Beau Mirchoff) possibly being done with her for good, Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) continued down the catfish hole with Jake (Brett Davern) and Matty became a rebel with a cause.
‘Awkward’ Recap: New Enemies At Palos Hills
After Eva (Elizabeth Whitson) answered Matty’s door at the end of the last episode, Jenna had been mulling all night over it. However, she couldn’t stay down for long, because Spirit Week had arrived. Tamara called and Jenna started blabbing about Eva, but it was actually Eva on the other line. She had called Jenna for Tamara. (Awkward!)
Jenna moped over Matty at school, but Tamara told her to cut it out. However, there wasn’t much room for Tamara to talk because she was continuing her Catfish prank against Jake. Eva told Jenna that nothing happened between her and Matty, but Jenna was still peeved. Both Jenna and Tamara had to put their drama aside to deal with a new enemy: The sophomore sluts. These sexy ladies were putting the moves on Matty and Jake and ready for Spirit Week domination. The seniors were not pleased.
Head sophomore-in-charge Mckenzie had her eyes on Matty. At the Chubby Bunny marshmallow challenge, she had all the boys fawning over her. The sophomores easily won that contest over the seniors. Mckenzie ended up on Matty’s arm, leaving Jenna seething. She asked Matty if he wanted to talk. She couldn’t believe he would confide in Eva, someone he just met, over her. Jenna was heartbroken that Matty had replaced her in every aspect of his life.
A hallway contest really upped the stakes among the classes. The seniors went for a futuristic theme, but were one-upped by a sexy jungle theme from the sophomores. For the first time in school history, it looked like the seniors would lose Spirit Week. Matty and Jake were mesmerized by the sophomores and all the senior girls were angrier than ever.
‘Awkward’ Recap: Real (And Fake) Talk
Sadie (Molly Tarlov) was still trying to get Lissa (Greer Grammer) to give up cheer captain. This time around, Sadie brought Jesus into the picture. “What Would Jesus Cheer?” was just one of the many lines Sadie used against Lissa to flip her out. Lissa almost cracked, but Val (Desi Lydic) made one last attempt to keep Sadie out of power.
Tamara was up all night Catfish-ing Jake and had no plans for the powderpuff game. She had grilled Jake about herself. Jake had said that Tamara was “controlling,” “self-centered” and “crazy.” (Tamara nearly reached her breaking point then.)
Jenna was taking over coaching the seniors, much to Sadie’s dismay. “All you know how to do is lose,” Sadie sneered. In a random act of leadership, Jenna went to her dad (Mike Faiola) about football in order to beat the sophomores. During the coaching session, Lacey (Nikki Deloach) and Ally (Barret Swatek) told Jenna that they had their own sophomore sluts in high school. While the girls thought Jenna should get nasty, Kevin said that beating them wouldn’t stop the guys from hanging out with them. (Kevin was right.)
Matty tried to talk to his mom about his adoption bombshell, but the conversation didn’t turn out like he had hoped. He thought she was ready to open up, but just wanted to talk about the dent in his car. Matty was over everyone telling him what to do and he quit his job to hang out with Mckenzie and Jake.
‘Awkward’ Recap: Ready, Set, Play!
The sophomore sluts made quite an entrance to the powderpuff game, and even had cheerleaders! Tamara blasted Jake and Matty for not cheering on the seniors, but they just went and sat with the sophomores. However, Jenna had the best cheerleader in the world: Her dad. (So sweet!)
Despite a valiant effort, the seniors were crushed by the sophomores in the powderpuff game. Mckenzie started taunting Jenna about Matty and Eva defended Jenna by yanking the fake extensions out of Mckenzie’s hair. (Eva is officially the best.) This started an all-out fight between the girls. Lissa proved she was the greatest friend by telling Sadie to save herself during the fight. The seniors may have lost the Spirit Week battle, but they had won the war. “Chicks before dicks, always,” Eva told Jenna.
Matty and Jake met up with the sophomores to celebrate their win. In an attempt to continue his rebellious spiral, Matty crashed his car! Is Matty headed down the wrong path?
