The sun is shining in old Kentucky — a welcome sight after it poured rain at Churchill Downs in 2013 and 2012. Another welcome sight is how wide open this running seems to be.
California Chrome, from the Golden State of course, is the favorite at 2-1 odds, but if he falters, there a ton of horses that could take the crown. Danza, Candy Boy, and Dance With Fate all head into the race with strong odds.
There are also a few intriguing, dare we say emotional story-lines in this year’s Kentucky Derby. First, there’s the horse Wicked Strong (at 7-1 odds) coming from New England to represent the city of Boston after it was devastated by the bombings in 2013. It would really be amazing if the Derby ended with a win for Boston Strong.
And then there’s the lady amongst the men, Rosie Napravnik, the jockey who will be riding Vicar’s In Trouble (at 19-1 odds). This is Rosie’s third Kentucky Derby after racing in 2011 and 2013. She almost tasted victory last year, finishing fifth, so you know she’s thirsty to become the first woman to win at Churchill Downs.
All the action starts promptly at 6:24 p.m. ET, so don’t miss it! Until then, tell us who YOU want to win the Kentucky Derby.
