Sam Woolf was eliminated on the May 1 episode of ‘American Idol’, but not before a bizarre twist which almost kept him on the show. HollywoodLife.com caught up with Sam after his elimination, and he told us that he has no hard feelings about his elimination — but that he didn’t like how it went down, and nor did the other ‘Idols’!
It was bound to happen eventually. Sam Woolf was eliminated on the May 1 episode of American Idol. In a strange, unnecessary twist, Ryan Seacrest gave the remaining 5 contestants ballots to vote for the option of keeping everybody on the show for one more week and eliminating two the following week, or to eliminate one that night — as has been the case each night previously. The Idol hopefuls chose to eliminate one that night, which turned out to be Sam. HollywoodLife.com spoke to Sam after the show and while Sam doesn’t have any hard feelings about his elimination, he wasn’t thrilled with how it went down — and nor were the other contestants! Read on to find out what they had to say!
‘American Idol': Contestants Upset About Twist In Sam Woolf’s Elimination
“I was kind of mad [about the twist], actually,” Sam told HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “They didn’t really tell us, but when they told us that keeping someone for another week was an option we kind of all huddled together and decided we shouldn’t really.” While Sam initially voted to keep everyone on, “after he’d circled the ‘yes’ we decided we shouldn’t have it changed because two people would be going home next week and that seemed worse.”
“We were all freaking out. Like what the heck? This is messed up,” Sam told us when we asked him how he felt in the moment. “It should be normal and once a week someone going home.”
“We were all like, ‘This is the silliest thing ever,'” Caleb Johnson said. “Let it go the way it’s supposed to go, the natural way.”
Jena Irene was on the same level as her fellow competitors — she “didn’t like that at all,” she told HollywoodLife.com. “We were already there for one person to leave. Why would you put stress on us when we are already stressed out?” Well said, Jena!
‘American Idol': Alex Preston Thought That Sam Woolf’s Elimination Was ‘So Dumb’
Finally, Alex Preston may have summed it up best, however — “Dude, so dumb.” Agreed!!
Many fans have pointed out that it’s possible that Idol producers knew before the show that Sam was going to get eliminated, and this was a last-ditch effort to keep him on for one more week. After all, Sam and his Woolf Pack have been making Idol a whooole bunch of money on the iTunes charts and it was in everyone’s best interests to keep him on the show and to keep him selling those studio recordings. Plus, he’s a fan favorite and everyone loves him!
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Was this an effort on part of Idol producers to wring more time out of Sam? Or was the twist just added for some drama and the fact that Sam was going to go home a coincidence? Let us know!
