Hi, you are all idiots if you stop watching SM because dear poor Gwen Stacy died…….if you actually LIKED Spider Man, and were someone who knew these movies are going by the comics, you would realize Gwen had to die. Hollywood isn’t going to change the comic and script because YOU’RE sad.
Gwen had to die because MARY JANE comes into the picture…remember?
Do some research kids. I didn’t even read the comics and I knew this.

There is still Spider-Man’s personal turmoil, crises of romance and loyalty, that Webb occasionally holds a few beats too long. Yet the performances ring true, with arresting chemistry where it counts.

If they make a third, I’m not watching it. Their relationship is half the movie, so now I don’t want to see anymore.

lol. Yes, her neck snapped but she clearly hit her head on the concrete too or did you just happen to miss the blatantly obvious and loud THUD at the same time as SNAP? That thud did not come from the web or the whiplash, it came from her HEAD HITTING THE DAMN CONCRETE. Also, this is a superhero movie; not a gore movie, so course someone’s brains won’t splatter in a movie like this. Gawd.

I hate that they killed her, but I saw the movie anyway. But I can tell you know that since they killed my women in the Amazing Spider Man 2, I wont be watching the 3rd or anyother of this series. No one kills off my dream girl, and still has me as audience.

I find it funny that no one realizes that they killed off Gwen because this movie was designed to be very, very similar to the comics.

It’s not like it wasn’t planned in the first place. Stacy’s death is a necessary event because that’s what happens in the comics. It is from this point that Mary Jane can be introduced.

Anyway who freaking really cares how Gwen Stacy died, whether it’s head trauma or neck snapping! – There will always be different interpretations on film from the comics. Ome can’t literally adapt scene to screen, like the Brooklyn Bridge scene in the comics was where Gwen Stacy died, but on film, she was at the Brooklyn Bridge with Peter confessing their love for each other, but her death was inside the clock tower instead. The comics version showed the web catching Gwen’s foot, resulting the whiplash snapping her neck, however on film, it was a different visual interpretation. The slo-mo dramatic visual f/x shows the web morphing into a hand trying to reach out to Gwen, but only to catch her torso, thinking he had saved her but the elasticity of the web pulling her torso against the gravitational force was too great (we saw that split second in the film where her body was flung backwards, yanked like a rag doll) causing that fateful ‘snap’ on her spinal chord! If anyone can remember what we learn from Physics in school that kinetic potential energy of any object is at its highest level before hitting the ground. Studies and experiments hacve revealed the impact energy level of weight from a falling base ball, that’s about to hit the ground, will be equivalent of a motorbike hitting a person while on ground… That’s why no matter what happens, Gwen knew her fate was coming as she falls and looked at Peter one last time… It was so dramatic I couldn’t stop my tears from flowing… Sigh!

Everyone is right when she fell from the clock tower she is snaged by web however this causes her back to snap from the whiplash effect causing her top half to fling back and smash against the concrete. ( she did hit the floor as mark Webb said that originally she did not and the web broke her neck however this confused people because the web represented salvation to them. So he added the impact wound)

It’s so sad to see Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) gone! I seriously couldn’t believe it, hoping and wishing desperately that Spidey would save her. Considering I have never been a huge Spiderman fan, this movie turned all of that around for me. We all miss her. I hope that Shailene Woodley will be able to hold a candle as Mary Jane to that of Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy. We all know we’ll be comparing. R.I.P. Gwen Stacy

No, it wasn’t her neck that snapped as I saw it clearly she was merely inches off the ground, Spidey thought he saved her in the nick of time but the snap we all heard at the film was from the sudden brake of whiplash, NOT her neck but her spinal chord that she died instantly.’the blood coming out from her nose is definitely from the breakage of vertebrae that will cause internal bleeding… Tragic but brutal version from Marc Webb.

“Tragic but brutal version from Marc Webb.” – Many of these modern ‘moves’ are mixing a lot of themes.. Switching from a story (and plot) for 6-yr olds (lol, but it’s true), to a sudden (brutal) scene like this; not sure what they were trying to accomplish, whether I should hit them – or just puke on them if I see them on the street. It’s not certain, but perhaps one of those two. =)

Anyway I’m juz disappointed towards the direction of this film especially for Gwen’s death. Juz felt it was so rushed esp during the fast forward motion of the seasons / months which showed Peter at her grave. Then cut to his conversation wif Aunt May & then that stupid last scene with Rhino. Then Spidey’s back for more adventures in NYC. Totally lame, given movie audience also didn’t have time to deal with the emotions on Gwen’s death

That's not what happened

Posted at 11:25 PM on April 29, 2014

Almost all of that was right. What happened was that when spider man shot his web at Emma, the whiplash snapped her neck. This is also what happens in the comics, but clearly hollywoodLife doesn’t do their research in these articles. I’ve also seen the new movie and I even heard a snapping noise. Nothing Peter could’ve done would save her. Look up “the night Gwen Stacy dies”. It’s basically the same thing that happened except unlike in the comics, it was Harry Osborne who was involved instead of Norman and they were at a clock tower near the oscorp power grid instead of the Brooklyn/golden gate bridge. If you’re going to spoil a movie, get your facts straight. It was supposedly to be symbolic that peter unintentionally kills her. If he didn’t she would’ve died anyway and there’d be blood. There was no blood, hence the neck snapped from whiplash.

You’re so wrong. Her neck didn’t snap, her head hit the floor because of the web’s elasticity causing a bungee effect. Why else do you think blood was coming from her nose? (Yes, there was blood, I’ve seen the movie nine times now and all nine times blood leaked from her nose) HEAD INJURY/BRAIN TRAUMA.

If her head hit the ground from that distance there should have been blood on the back of her head. Snapping your neck can cause your nose, ear or mouth to bleed because the vein from the neck pops.

It’s kind of open ended what actually killer her, her neck could have snapped but her head does hit the ground as well and she does start bleeding from her nose. In the books iit’s open ended too as Goblin says the fall killed her before his webbing got to her, though at this point it is pretty much accepted she broke her neck.

Wrong. Her head clearly hits the ground; Director Marc Webb confirms it. The film makers were originally going to have her NOT hit the ground and have her die from her neck snapping, but it tested poorly. Audiences saw the webbing as salvation and refused to believe that she had died, so Webb and Co. used a scene where her head hit the floor. He has stated that she, in fact, died of blunt force trauma to the head. Maybe YOU should do some research before making snarky comments on the internet.

Errr no, watch the movie again, clearly Marc Webb’s version differs slightly from original script that he thinks the fall impact wd kill her but we all know we saw the web that caught Gwen’s waist torso and merely inches away from ground impact. But if you watch carefully the blink or u miss it moment was her body was curved backwards, so it’s her spinal chord that snapped, not her neck as depicted in the comics… Any injury or acute damage to either Neck or vertebrae damage definitely causes internal bleeding resulting in instant fatality.
