Pharrell put on an amazing mash-up performance of some of his hottest hits after receiving — quite fittingly — the iHeart Innovator award on May 1 at the iHeartRadio Music Awards! He also gave a super-sweet shout-out to his wife, Helen Lasichanh, and their son, Rocket.

Brand new coach for The VoicePharrell Williams, 41, totally killed it at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on May 1 with an incredible, show-stopping mash-up performance of some of his greatest hits. It just wouldn’t be an awards show without Pharrell, and fellow The Voice coach Gwen Stefani, 44, presented him with the iHeart Innovator award! Read on for more about his tribute, performance, and touching acceptance speech!

Gwen was totally gushing over her new co-worker, giving him the credit for being a genius where credit was due. Gwen and Pharrell first met when they collaborated on No Doubt‘s “Hella Good,” which was released in 2001. After Gwen’s introduction, some of the biggest names in music and entertainment talked about what a creative genius Pharrell is, and about his impact on music.

After the touching tribute, Pharrell put on a bombastic mash-up performance of “Come Get It Bae,” which led into “Blurred Lines,” which then went into “Get Lucky,” and finally, his hugest hit of late, “Happy.” Pharrell is a totally amazing, inspirational pro, and the show he put on was stellar.

When he accepted his award, he gave a sweet shout-out to his wife, Helen Lasichanh, and to their young son, Rocket Williams. An excerpt of his speech, which he devoted mainly to his fans:

“I never dreamed in a million, million, million years that, as a producer, I’d be standing here as an artist.” […] “All I did was write the songs, and you guys did all the heavy lifting, all the hard work, all those billions of views on TouTube, all that calling in… thank you guys for lifting me so high! Thank you guys so, so much.”

What a mature, sincere, and genuine performer!

Oh, and, hi, obviously we need to talk about Pharrell’s hat. It looked like a miniature version of something Carmen Sandiego would wear… and we loved it. Though now we’re a little concerned that Pharrell’s head may roll off of his shoulders without a hat on top of it.

What did you think of the tribute to Pharrell and of his performance, HollywoodLifers? Did Pharrell deserve the iHeart Innovator award?
