NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced on April 29 that Los Angeles Clippers owner, Donald Sterling, was not going to get off easy for his horrible, racist remarks that went public on April 26. Adam banned Sterling for life from all NBA events and also hit him with a $2.5 million fine, and immediately after, members of the NBA family spoke out and praised him for the taking the most drastic measures.

Big ups to Adam Silver. I think this is a very appropriate way to handle this situation. Now it’s up to the owners to make him sell.

The players were not the only ones who are in full support of the Commissioners. Other NBA owners are tweeting their support as well.
I completely support NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s decisive action on the Sterling issue. Great leadership and the league is in good hands. — Paul Allen (@PaulGAllen) April 29, 2014

Donald Sterling Receives Lifetime Ban From NBA
On April 9. Donald’s girlfriend, V. Stiviano — who is of black and mexican heritage — posted a picture of herself with Magic Johnson to Instagram. Donald flew off the handle when he saw V’s picture and went on a rant that was recorded and released by V. herself.
Magic released a statement to TMZ saying, “It’s a shame that Donald Sterling feels that way about African-Americans. He has a team full of amazing African-American basketball players that are working to bring a championship to Clippers fans. The Clippers also have a strong minority fan base.”
After Magic, nearly every NBA icon, from Michael Jordan to LeBron to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar spoke out demanding that Sterling be punished severely. And that’s just what Adam Silver did.
While Adam cannot personally take the team away from Donald, he is urging The Board of Governors to sell the team. In order to do so, they would need a three-quarter vote — a number that Adam thinks is very attainable. He also added that the process to take away the team from Donald will begin immediately.
We are glad to see that Adam has taken these remarks so seriously and has taken the appropriate actions necessary to make sure that Donald’s rant does not go unpunished, and we stand behind all the basketball players who have persevered through this prejudice.
