It’s safe to say that ‘Southern Charm’ brought a whole new meaning to reality TV — after the show wrapped its first season, two cast members had a baby and another got married! But did new parents Kathryn and Thomas put a ring on it? Keep reading to find out what they revealed during the reunion special!
Thomas Ravenel and Kathryn Dennis sat together on Southern Charm‘s reunion episode, which HollywoodLife.com learned just filmed on Thursday, April 24 — so this time, all of the relationship statuses are up to date! Whitney Sudler-Smith revealed the latest on his love life, plus Craig Conover and Shepard “Shep” Rose sounded off on their Kathryn hookups!
‘Southern Charm’ Reunion: Andy Cohen Clears Up The Latest Marriage & Baby Rumors
Host Andy Cohen hit upon the white elephant in the room immediately, bringing up Thomas’s surprise baby with Kathryn (who joins the reunion later in the episode). “She is so beautiful, and I love her very much,” beamed Thomas who made light of the age difference between him and his baby-momma, asking, “Why did I wait so long? I should have done this when I was Kathryn’s age. She’d be out of college by now!”
Of course, there is another surprise in the relationship department with the Southern Charm cast — Cameran Eubanks is now a married woman! Andy congratulated Cameron on her wedding, which shocked viewers, and she jokingly replied, “I’m officially not interesting anymore!” But why wasn’t her hubby ever featured or mentioned on the show? “Not everybody wants to be on reality TV,” explains Cameran, admitting that she has happily been with her now-husband, Jason, for three years.
Andy also asked her why she returned to reality TV, after appearing on The Real World (remember that?!) and Cameran explained that it just felt right.
‘Southern Charm’: Let’s Talk About All Of Those Hook Ups
“You all really do fish in the same small pond,” said Andy, perfectly explaining the incestuous nature of the entire first season.
Let’s start with Kathryn’s multiple romances (can we call them that?). “You know I never made a pass at Kathryn,” said Shep to Craig who did sleep with Kathryn.
(Take a moment to notice how awkward this is: Thomas is sitting right there listening to a bunch of fratty boys talk about getting down with the mother of his child!)
Thankfully, Shep didn’t have sex with Kathryn because he admitted that he never uses protection! In a major TMI moment (but hilarious, at that), Shep tells Andy that he just hopes for the best since he believes women use birth control. “I assume that they do,” Shep says. “It feels so good, I can’t stop!”
Then, a flashback scene of Shep and Thomas’s awkward discussion about Kathryn’s pregnancy was re-aired so that the guys could talk it out. Thomas admitted that he took a paternity test, and that baby Kensington is indeed his daughter.
Big news for Whitney — he now has a girlfriend! He says they’ve been together since last fall, and big surprise here: she’s 21. Andy is shocked at the age difference (Whitney is 45 years old), but I guess that he knows what he likes. He was with Kathryn, after all. Whitney admits that his current girlfriend is more “cultured and mature” than Kathryn. And most importantly, the girlfriend got his mom’s stamp of approval!
But what about Whitney and Kathryn? Whitney admits that it was “fun and passing” and nothing serious. Kathryn says that they both agreed that it was a “drunken mistake.”
So was Shep a drunken mistake, too? “No, he was kind of fun,” Kathryn admitted — in front of Thomas! (Awkward.)
Andy Grills Thomas On His Baby, Partying & Politics
Andy calls out Thomas for his partying ways on screen, especially because he is now a father. “I’m not a big drinker so I can’t really handle my liquor,” explains Thomas who says that he’s so embarrassed of being drunk on TV, and he’s cutting down on the drinking. Andy asks just how drunk he was when he bought Kathryn’s pregnancy test, and the entire gang just laughs.
The cast praises Thomas, saying that he’s a very likable person with a lot of fans. Good thing because he’s running for Senator of South Carolina! Even the youngins’ Shep and Craig admit that Thomas would be a good political leader because he understands the younger generation’s social and fiscal views. Thomas confirms that he’s running for office: “I am running as an independent.” He also says that he believes his relationship with Kathryn and their baby will help him in the election, rather than hurt him because he is a new and improved person.”It’s been totally transformative,” said Thomas. “I think it helps me as a person or helps me as a candidate.”
But what about Kathryn’s promiscuity? Does that bother Thomas? He says that his family loves her and hasn’t said a word about her “sexcapades” on the show. Of course, the infamous dinner scene where Craig calls out Kathryn for sleeping with three people at the same table in the past three weeks was re-aired. And it was just as juicy. “No one’s asking Shep and Craig questions of their sexcapades,” Thomas says, in defense of his lady.
What Else Is New With The Gang?
With all of the drama surrounding Kathryn and Thomas, we almost forgot about the other Southerners, but we got an update on their whereabouts in life, starting with Craig who is on his way to a great professional career. “Do you wish you were a gentleman of leisure?” Andy asked Craig who responds surprisingly eloquently and responsibly, telling Andy that he finishes law school in two weeks and just finished a final exam the night before the reunion was taped! Craig also throws some serious shade at both Thomas and Whitney, saying that he’s glad he was able to observe their privileged lives because he’s learned what not to do: go to jail or live with your mom. Ouch!
Jenna King says that she is not with Lou, and responds to the gold digger rumors. When Whitney points out that he bought her a closet full of Christian Louboutins, she says that the price of those shoes is absolutely nothing to him.
Back to Shep — we love to hate him and hate to love him, but he just solidifies that he will never grow up. “I’m overeducated, under-motived,” he tells Andy who asks if his family has cracked down on his funds, now that his wild ways have been broadcast on national television. But Shep insists that they haven’t. “I have a couple of funds,” he frivolously admits. Oh boy.
Kathryn Joins The Reunion — Is She Engaged To Thomas?
“I feel great,” said Kathryn who just gave birth one month ago. She also says that her relationship with Thomas is good “so far.” Uh oh. We hope the new parents make it through for the long haul!
When asked about the criticism from her cast members, Kathryn admits that it was difficult to deal with the doubt, in regards to her and Thomas’s relationship. “There is an age difference, but there is still a capacity to love someone, no matter how old they are,” she said.
Turns out, they’re not getting married yet, but their love is real. “There is nothing on my hands,” Kathryn said about a ring, but she did reveal that the couple got together before she found out she was pregnant. Thomas says that they actually rekindled their romance the day after the fight on the season finale.
And what about that crying scene? Thomas admits that he’s a real man, and real men cry!
Despite all of the judgement, Cameran and Shep admit that Kathryn has grown up since having her baby, and that she didn’t do anything wrong on the show — she was just being a normal 21-year-old!
