Lamar Odom was ‘in complete shock’ over Donald Sterling’s racist rant which was released on April 25. An ex-LA Clippers forward himself, sources close to Lamar are telling HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that that he just ‘couldn’t believe it.’
Lamar Odom, 34, began his professional career with the LA Clippers in 1999, having been drafted just after completing his freshman year. He played with them until 2003 and returned briefly in 2012 until 2013. Therefore, you can probably imagine that he was surprised by Donald Sterling‘s incredibly racist remarks — after all, Donald said that he didn’t want black people at his games! “Lamar was shocked,” a source close to Lamar is telling HollywoodLife.com exclusively. Read on for more of his reaction, and our source’s thoughts on whether Donald will ever be stripped of his ownership!
Donald Sterling: Ex-Clippers Player Lamar ‘In Complete Shock’ Over Racist Comments
“Lamar was shocked, in complete shock when he heard what [Donald] said. He couldn’t believe it,” our source revealed. “He was just shocked. But that’s life, you know. Some people never really change no matter the times or how much money they have or how well-traveled they are — some people just never learn.”
While we weren’t able to get any information on what Lamar thinks about what kind of consequences, if any, will befall Donald, our source was happy to dish. “Good luck [stripping Donald of his ownership], if they even try. The reality is that he has money to last him 10 lifetimes and when you’re balling out of control like [Donald] is, nothing you do — no matter how shameful or harmful it is — you will skate by. It’s what it is. It’s the rules of the game and nothing will happen to him.”
Donald Sterling: Source Says ‘Really Doubtful’ We’d See A Boycott From The Clippers
Our source also claims that Clippers players “already got a crash course from [their] PR the minute this story hit the Internet. […] I bet you they all had to get up and meet in the Hilton hotel out there in Oakland and had a closed-door session on what their owner said.Guaranteed they don’t have practice today. They’re probably all in hiding until [the April 27] game.”
Interesting! If the players already received a crash course in PR, then why hasn’t anybody said anything? The first step in crisis management is to respond to the crisis as soon as possible, and at the time of this writing we have yet to hear from the Clippers, though HollywoodLife.com has reached out and we eagerly await a statement.
However, our source doesn’t believe that Clippers players will speak out against Donald — nor will Lamar. All that Lamar will admit is that he was “shocked,” because, as our source put it, the team is “playing for this man who clearly hates them but they can’t say anything about it. It’s like Donald has a chokehold on them,” because he signs their paychecks, and a boycott “would be the right thing to do” but that it’s “really doubtful” we’d see it happen.
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are we going to see a boycott from any NBA players, or will it be business as usual?
