Sherlock fans have been beside themselves, knowing that the show may not come back for a new season for another two years, but star Martin Freeman just made everyone’s day a bit more hopeful!

The actor who stars as Dr. John Watson, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes), stopped by the Chatty Man talk show, hosted by Alan Carr, and spilled some seriously secret clues into Sherlock‘s future.

“Mark Gatiss [co-creator] may beat me up, but there is an idea for this one-off special that’s such a good idea.” We full-heartedly agree! He continued, “As I was listening to it, I thought ‘we’ve just got to do this.’ It’s a fantastic, really mouth-watering idea. But I really don’t know when we are going to get to do it.”

Way to tease us, Martin!

Back in February 2014, show co-creator Steven Moffat revealed the terrible news that the show may not return for a long while, due to schedule conflicts.

“I have no idea,” Steven said about the show’s return. “You know, we’ll do what we can, but with no sacrifice in quality – that’s the thing. If people have to wait two years, they’ll have to wait two years.”

Hopefully, Martin’s big announcement comes true! We cannot wait any longer for more Watson and Holmes!
