Aubrey Peeples Cast As Jem In ‘Jem And The Holograms’ Movie
Jem and the Holograms is coming to life!
The widely popular ’80s cartoon, which ran from 1985 to 1988, has cast Nashville‘s Aubrey Peeples as the iconic rocker chick, Jem, the Hollywood Reporter first reported.
Aubrey, who also starred in the sci-fi smash hit Sharknado, will be joined by three other starlets in the film’s punk-rock band. Disney star Stefanie Scott (A.N.T. Farm) will play Jem’s sister Kimber, Aurora Perrineau (Pretty Little Liars) will play Shana and Hayley Kiyoko (The Fosters) will play Aja.
The screen adaptation of the cartoon — which followed music company owner Jerrica Benton and her rock star alter ego Jem with her band the Holograms — is currently filming, and is being directed by Jon M. Chu, in collaboration with Scooter Braun Production and Blumhouse Productions.
The producers said that Jem will be a hit “for a whole new generation with themes of being true to who you are in a multitasking, hyperlinked social media age.” The movie remake will differ from the original animated series, as it centers around an orphaned teen who becomes an internet sensation.
