The 1980’s film that kept you up at night and made you afraid to go to summer camp is going to be made into a frighteningly new TV series.

Jason Voorhees is heading to the small screen! That’s right — Friday the 13th, one of the most iconic horror movie sagas, is being developed into an hour-long TV show, according to our sister site Deadline. Sean S. Cunningham, the director who oversaw the making of the original film back in 1980, will be one of the executive producers of the new TV show. Believe it or not, this is the second time Friday The 13th has been made into a regular series for television.

The first TV series aired from 1987-1990 and starred Louise Robey, Chris Wiggins, John D. Lemay. However, that storyline was completely unconnected to the to the original films.

This time around the show will take place at Crystal Lake where main character Jason Vorhees first started his murderous rampage in the original film, according to ign.com.

The new show focuses “on the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his wacky family are revealed,”  according to Deadline, which was one of the first websites to break the news.

Friday The 13th will be set in our present time, however, it seems a lot of flashbacks will be involved, showing Jason “in multiple time periods,” the online media outlet added.

Unfortunately, there has been no set release date for the first episode, but producers have guaranteed that it’s going to be worth the wait!
