A year after the tragedy at Boston took place in 2013, about 36,000 runners headed to the starting line for the 2014 Boston Marathon at 9:30 EST on April 21. Runners and bystanders gathered close together remembering the horrifying events from the previous year, paying tribute to those who were lost, and celebrating the lives saved by running once again in the huge marathon.

It’s so nice to see the celebratory act in Boston, once again. The runners headed to the start line at 1 Ash Street in Hopkinton to start the 26-mile run. While Boston has taken additional precautions this year, many who were injured last year are still competing this year. Nicole Gross waited for her the mother to cross the finish line in 2013 and was hit by the explosions — she broke two bones in her leg, while her sister Erika lost her left leg. However, her mother is still running, and her family will still be there to watch.
“We look forward to cheering on our Mom Carol and Brother Brian and our many friends that are running this year, to help us recapture our memories of the marathon,” the couple said in a statement.
We love that people are still supporting their loved ones, and that it proves that the country has gathered together and proved that nothing will keep them from showing their pride.
