Prince William & Prince George Play In Australia
What a good father Prince William is!
After his son looked rather grumpy during his arrival in Wellingon, New Zealand and later, Sydney, Australia on April 16, the first-time father worked hard to bring a smile back to his face.
During a visit to the Admiralty House, the official Sydney residence of the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove, Prince George received a gigantic stuffed wombat as a gift. Prince William stepped up to the plate and accepted the teddy bear on his son’s behalf, and then promptly began using the new toy as a source of entertainment for Prince George.
The stuffed wombat instantly brought a smile back to Prince George’s face, which made everyone else, including gorgeous mom Kate Middleton, very happy as well!
Wombat Has Special Meaning to Prince William
This is not Prince William’s first trip to Australia, as he once visited the country down under with his late mother, Princess Diana.
In 2007, Prince William revealed that after that trip to Australia with his mom, she began calling him “wombat” as an affectionate nickname. Apparently, the nickname stuck well into his adult life!
“I can’t get rid of it now,” William shared during a rare one-on-one interview with Matt Lauer. “When I went with our parents [to Australia] and the wombat … obviously, that’s the local animal. So I just basically got called that. Not because I look like a wombat. Or maybe I do, you know, [a] little.”
It’s very sweet that Sir Peter Cosgrove was able to gift Prince George with such a special item, helping to keep Princess Diana’s spirit alive within the family.
