After months of reports and rumors, the producers of ‘Fast & Furious 7’ confirmed what many expected — that Paul’s brothers, Caleb and Cody, would be honoring him by completing his scenes for the upcoming movie.
Fast & Furious 7 has resumed filming with some enormous news. In the wake of their star Paul Walker‘s tragic death, producers have landed on an in-house solution, so to speak. In a heartfelt note to fans on April 15, the movie’s makers confirmed that instead of hiring another actor to replace Paul, they had decided to have Paul’s brothers, Caleb and Cody, finish his scenes.
Paul Walker’s Brothers Completing His ‘Fast & Furious 7’ Scenes
Because the Fast series is so fanatically adored, and because Paul was so loved, the producers clearly wanted to be upfront with their plans on finishing the upcoming movie while also respecting Paul’s memory. So in a long note posted to the Fast & Furious 7 Facebook page, they announced Caleb and Cody’s involvement in the movie:
The FAST & FURIOUS saga is about family. The characters are connected by the bond of family, and it is how all of us who have worked together for more than thirteen years feel about each other. It certainly defines how we feel about our fans.
Our family experienced an unthinkable shock in November. We had to take time to grieve Paul, the brother we love and lost, and to figure out if we should move on with our film.
We came together and all felt the only choice was to continue. We believe our fans want that, and we believe Paul would want that too. Paul had already shot his dramatic scenes and most of his action for FAST & FURIOUS 7, and it’s among the strongest work of his career.
We have resumed shooting and now welcome Paul’s brothers, Caleb and Cody, into our FAST family. Caleb and Cody are helping us complete some remaining action for their brother and fill in small gaps left in production. Having them on set has made us all feel that Paul is with us too.
We are just under a year away from the release of FAST & FURIOUS 7, and this film is the most important we’ve ever done together. It will allow the character of Brian O’Conner to live on and let us celebrate Paul in his most defining role.
We wanted to take a moment to speak to our fans directly and thank you for the love and support you always show us as we resume our work.
Paul Walker: CGI Utilized In Making ‘Fast & Furious 7’
Having at least one of Paul’s brothers help “fill in small gaps,” as the producers put it, is an idea that’s been floated since December, as a source explained that “they can shoot [Cody and Caleb] from behind and at a distance” to the Daily Mail. CGI will also play a crucial role, as it will allow the filmmakers to digitally insert Paul’s face and voice over either Cody and Caleb’s faces.
Once they decided that production on Fast & Furious 7 would go on, how to fill in Paul’s scenes was the first problem they were going to solve. There really isn’t a perfect solution, but this has to be as close as it gets. Paul’s brothers not only look the most like him and will help maintain a high level of quality, but if anyone can make sure Paul’s legacy lives on, it’s them.
But what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are you glad the Fast producers made this call, or should they have decided differently?
