No one in August’s family was musically inclined but he was inspired to sing by Lauryn Hill after seeing her performance in Sister Act 2.
2. August overcame a troubled family life to have a successful music career.
Both his father and stepfather battled crack cocaine addictions, and his father eventually died. August’s older brother, Melvin La’Branch III, was shot and killed on August 31, 2010. His death inspired August to became more committed to his music career.
3. August is best known for his single “I Luv This Sh*t” featuring Trinidad James.
August released his hit song “I Luv This Sh*t” in 2013, and it reached number four on the US R&B charts. Later in 2013, he released a remix featuring Chris Brown and his now nemesis Trey Songz.
4. August has a beef with fellow R&B crooner Trey Songz.
