August Alsina: R&B Singer Flips Out On ‘106 & Park’ Interviewer — Watch

Wed, April 16, 2014 10:03am EDT by 42 Comments

On the April 15 episode of ‘106 & Park’, interviewer Keshia Chanté asked August Alsina about his feud with Trey Songz, and August flipped out on Keshia! Click through to watch their exchange.

R&B singer August Alsina appeared on 106 & Park on April 15, and Keshia Chanté asked him the question that all of his fans want to know: is he ever going to “bury the hatchet” with fellow R&B singer and ex-collaborator Trey Songz? Apparently not, because August bristled at the question and totally lashed out at Keshia for asking! It was pretty jarring. Click through to watch!

August Alsina Lashes Out Against Keshia Chanté On ‘106 & Park’

While promoting his new album Testimony which was released that day, April 15, Keshia just had to ask: “Is there any chance that two talented brothers will bury the hatchet?” August did not seem overly pleased by the question, and responded with, “So, you just gon’ against the grain and go against everything that I just–…. I just told y’all not to ask me that s*** when I got up here.” Wow!

Keshia, clearly shocked, tried to recover, explaining, “well, I think that the girls wanna know, and you’ve spoken on radio stations and blogs and you’re on the show, so fans wanna know, and I’m just asking you what fans wanna know!” August — fans wanna know!! Keshia continued, “That’s it! And if you don’t want to answer, that’s fine!”

Co-host Bow Wow tried to save the situation by bringing it back to August’s new video, but the damage had already been done.

August Alsina Talks About His Feud With Trey Songz

Now, to be fair, we can definitely acknowledge both sides of the situation. While August could have been kinder and more diplomatic about not wanting to answer, Keshia should not have asked the question if it’s true that either August or his PR had already discussed with 106 & Park that he wasn’t going to answer that question. Every reporter, interviewer, and interviewee, for that matter, has been in the same situation and this wasn’t handled all too well.

And what’s the beef between Alsina and Trey? Well, the two seemed to get along well enough back in 2013 when August released his song “I Luv This S***” featuring Trey (and Chris Brown), but Alsina told Rap Up in March 2014:

“I don’t really f*** with Trey right now. We don’t get along right now. We ain’t on the same page. He did some other s*** and we just don’t rock. Like I tell people all the time, show me that you’re this person on day one… You should always be that person. We were supposed to have a show together and it just went left ’cause I can’t deal with n***s’ egos and attitudes ’cause I’m just a real n**** comin’ through and I’m rockin’.”

What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Team Keshia or Team August? What did you think of their exchange? Vote and let us know!

He gave up his privacy once he signed the contract. Imagine if one the kids on the show asked him the same question? Would he have cursed at them too? He needs to think about his image. Honestly the record company could care less about his losses or where he came from. They are looking to fill that young Usher / Chris Brown spot. BET has come a long way since its local DC days. They have established relationships with many labels which enables an artist to get airplay and a host of bigger things to come. He was on Arsenio a few weeks back..just imagine if he had the op to be speak and he acted and spoke like that? It’s not about keeping it real and feeing disrespected.,answer the question or decline graciously and make your money. R&B singers come and go. Def Jam will not keep someone who is going to mess up relationships for them nor lose money behind some whiny individual. Clearly this incident shows that he does not have tough skin. He is talented but if he will find himself back in the hood making mix tapes next year.

@Naee You clearly have no idea whatsoever what “ratchet” means. There is nothing about Keisha that is ratchet. Ratchet is an extreme level of ghetto and nothing about her says ghetto. What Keisha did was stupid and she was made to look stupid because of it, she got what she deserved but she is not ratchet, just like that guy said. Any woman who could look at this woman and conclude her to be ratchet is truly nothing but a hater. Is she stupid as fuck? Perhaps, but ratchet? No

Listening to it again she clearly said “bury the hatchet” and correct me if I’m wrong isn’t that technically still talking about the beef? Also if he’s saying yall that is meant as you all which which is including Keisha therefore she had no right to address the situation and he’s probably tired of talking about the situation like his album just came out that day

The majority of people are saying that it is her fault because she shouldn’t have asked the question, he asked them not to backstage but who said they told her not to say it. He could have told the producers, sure, but they get more attention when things like this blow up so how are we sure she was informed? He just became more popular and I’d advise him to be careful of how he speaks to people, seeing as she wasn’t asking it rudely or being disrespective he’ll lose fans /ratings if he is seen as arrogant or rude. I’m not on her side though because if she was told not to bring it up, she shouldn’t have, that shows no respect, his response still could have been nicer tbh, learn to control what you say, so you don’t lose before you gain.

First of all… Kesha is always out of her place, she is an up and coming tv personality but she acts like she knows everything. I have seen her on several occasions be rude to celebrities and try to play it off thinking that they won’t say anything to her because she is on camera. Even when Nick Cannon was on the show she was being really rude.

Now another thing to you see how when he said that Bow Wow changed the subject right along with him to the album, that is what she should have done no but she continued to try to pressure him to answer. Furthermore, she is so unprofessional because look how she tried to call him a dick and walk off right before he did his plug.

It’s obvious she won’t last long in the biz, she doesn’t know how to give good interview. Bow Wow is the main host and she is rude to him all the time.

I understand he was upset that she asked anyways, but the way he handled it was VERY disrepectful and distasteful. A REAL man with any bit of integrity wouldn’t talk to a lady that way. All he simply had to do was say no comment or politely ask for another question. It’s ways to handle those kinds of situations and he needs more media training. Plus, he is a new artist and this isn’t a good look. 1st off, he sounds very unintelligent and to me he isn’t even original. He seems like a knock off of Chris Brown. What’s original about him? Male singers like him come a dime a dozen. If I was sitting in that sudience, I wouldn’t of even clapped. He didn’t even deserve to go on with the interview or show his video as far as I’m concerned. He was very rude, very disrespectful to the host and the teens in the audience and viewers at home. He needs to go sit down somewhere.

I believe it goes both ways. No he shouldn’t have answered that question that way but if this woman wants to be perceived as a professional, build a clientele and have some respect in her industry then she shouldn’t try to put people on the spot. She doesn’t have it like that yet. It’s a manipulation, and she tried to use the pressure of the cameras to get something out of him and it backfired. He needs some more training, definitely, but she needs to take a course in Journalism 101.

Finally! Someone who sees things the way I did. I am just a little bit older and came from a generation where celebrities were taught how to use those instances to their own advantage and still answer with some grace. August and Trey ain’t eva got to work together again and no one wil care. All he could have done is just said thakn you to the fans for their support and then end it with, “I don’t know what the future holds” and not come out of it looking like a jerk, especially as a new artist and a “man” talking to a young lady. The nasty disrespect makes me want to keep my dollars to myself. We vote with our dollars and if you co-sign that BS and behavior he’s only going to keep it up. What’s next, him slapping the next reporter for doing their job?! She did her job…now, I don’t watch that show much so I don’t know about her usual behavior and whether “she got what she deserved” as many of the posters are saying. I do know for his sake, for his career, you are auditioning yourself in front of a buying audience who are judging whether they are going to support your career. If he got that much attitude starting out, how will he handle more success?! Of course, with this generation of disrespectful negroes, we don’t care no more. We don’t care how we treat women, each other or kids. He was wrong in how he handled it point blank. Whether she should have asked or not, she did her job…she didn’t even mentioned a beef so if he didn’t want to talk about a beef or let on like there was an issue to begin with, he failed in how he chose to respond. I don’t like his attitude and really, he’s average in a genre of music where they come a dime a dozen. Had he been more of a gentleman, he may have gotten my support. #arrogantbastard

If a star don’t want to talk about something they have that right! Even thou they are in the media they should show them some kind of respect especially if he asked them ahead of time not to ask that question! Give the man a break he didn’t want to talk about it! Everybody needs respect no matter who they are!

People are so dumb including you. Don’t use words you don’t thoroughly understand. Disrespect is the lack of courtesy or respect. He made it known FIRST for them not to engage in the Trey Songz beef question, the Keyshia girl knew this and did it anyway which is why she tried to smooth it over afterwards. For example I disrespected you by calling you dumb so anything directed at me I can’t claim as disrespect since I instigated the situation. Now go back to being dumb.

She didn’t ask him about a beef. Did I miss something? She said the collab you did with Trey was good, can the fans expect future projects?! She didn’t disrespect him. People, she did her job! She didn’t ask him what side of his under shorts did he put his penis!!! She asked him a valid question. It’s a shame he didn’t have enough intelligence, maturity or professionalism to answer with grace. These new kids need to learn how to use such instances to their advantage, not turn off potential fans…

The point is he didn’t want to talk about that subject at all. Hint he said “I told y’all not to ask me about this shit.” So no matter what she asked as long as it involved the beef he wasn’t with it. As a celeberty people get asked questions they don’t want to answer all the time, and if they specify that they don’t want to talk about it after constantly being hounded about it respect it and shut up. He was wrong for how he did it in front of young impressionable teens and on live tv, but he had every right to be upset because she disrespected him by doing exactly what he told them not to do. And Bow Wow did a good job staying professional and changing the subject which she should have done, instead of continuing to press the issue when he clearly was trying to move on past the situation.
