The playoffs continued with both Team Shakira and Team Adam belting it out on stage! Standout singers Christina Grimmie, Jake Barker, Tess Boyer and Delvin Choice sang. So who made it through to the live shows and who was cut?
The Voice eliminated four performers between Team Shakira and Team Adam on the April 14 episode — including some of our favorites! Scroll down to see who was cut!
Team Shakira Heads Into The Playoffs
The Voice playoffs kicked off last week with Team Blake going up first. Major players Madilyn Paige and Ryan Whyte Maloney were sent home — Madilyn’s sendoff was a huge shocker! This week, both Team Shakira and Team Adam took the stage.
Kristen Merlin of Team Shakira was up first. The confident country singer sang Carrie Underwood’s “Two Black Cadillacs” and absolutely killed it. The song really allowed her to belt out some high notes. Adam Levine and Shakira both gave her a standing ovation. Blake Shelton even said it was “as flawless as a live performance could be!”
Next up was 16-year-old Deja Hall. The young songstress sang Jordin Sparks’ “Battlefield” with such ease. Usher told her that her voice was so strong that she almost sang above the track! Shakira was proud of her and applauded her newfound confidence.
Former St. Louis Rams cheerleader Tess Boyer followed Deja. Tess was the only singer to have been coached by three coaches. Her rendition of “Human” by Christina Perri was hauntingly beautiful. Adam said it was one of the best performances he’d seen and he was mad at himself for not coaching her. He looked to Usher and Blake and said they were dumb for not holding onto Tess. However, Blake retaliated with, “You never had her to begin with. You’re the idiot.”
The sole guy on Team Shakira, Patrick Thomson, was up next. He decided to take on Ray LaMontagne’s classic “Trouble.” He gave a strong and soulful performance. Adam loved his performance and wished he could hit high notes like Patrick.
Dani Moz was the last lady for Team Shakira. She put a new twist on Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory.” Dani decided on a stripped down, piano version. Shakira told her to let her walls down during her performance and she did just that! At the end of the song, Shakira was shaking off goosebumps. Adam told Shakira she would be a “looney” if she didn’t keep Dani. Usher even went so far as to say Dani’s performance brought him close to tears! Shakira was so proud of her team and said each and every one of them was killing it.
Team Adam Fights It Out For The Live Show
First up for Team Adam was Delvin Choice. Delvin chose “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. His rendition was a nice take on a classic. Blake told him that he had come leaps and bounds from the beginning. Usher said there was nothing Delvin couldn’t do. With just Delvin’s performance, Adam was assured that his team was the team to beat this year!
Jake Barker was up next and he was one brave, brave soul. He chose to sing one of Adam’s own songs, “She Will Be Loved!” Adam was excited and nervous about Jake’s choice. However, Jake’s performance was smooth, electrifying and sexy. Blake and Usher complimented Jake’s strong falsetto. Adam praised his bravery and said he had a lot to be proud of.
Kat Perkins followed and took on Journey’s classic “Open Arms.” Her performance was absolutely effortless. “You should be very, very proud of yourself,” Usher said. Adam said it was only the beginning for Kat and there had not been a better performance so far!
Tennessee rocker Morgan Wallen decided to change directions and return to his country crooning roots. He had a lot to live up to since Adam used his only steal on him. Florida Georgia Line’s “Stay” was a great country song for Morgan. Both Blake and Adam loved his performance. “I was unaware of how good you were,” Adam said.
Internet sensation Christina Grimmie was the final performer for Team Adam. Her performance of “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz was the perfect way to close out the show. Her rendition was powerful and emotional. Before she even finished, Blake said to Adam “That’s your best one.” Usher even called her a baby Celine Dion!
Patrick Thomson & Jake Barker Are Sent Home
For Shakira, she had a tough choice to make. The first performer she chose to go onto the live shows was Tess! Then, she picked Kristen to move on to the next round! With only one spot left, Shakira chose Dani, eliminating Patrick and Deja.
Adam had a similar struggle in choosing who to send home. He applauded them all, but knew two had to go. His first pick for the live show was Christina. Delvin was the next chosen to stay on Team Adam. Between Morgan, Jake and Kat, this wasn’t going to be easy for Adam. Adam decided to go with Kat as his final performer for the live shows.
We’re sad to see Deja, Patrick, Jake and Morgan go, but we’re also excited to see what the remaining performers have left to show us! The top 12 is so close!
