If there’s one thing you don’t yell in an airport, it’s the word, ‘Bomb.’ However, San Francisco 49ers player Aldon Smith didn’t get the memo — he allegedly said he had a bomb on him at LAX airport on April 13 and was arrested and charged with a felony!
Aldon Smith was arrested on April 13 after being pulled aside for a random screening at the Los Angeles International Airport, and freaking out on authority. The defensive end, who has had two DUIs and three felony charges from past crimes under his belt, could face up to a year in jail if he is charged.
Aldon Smith Arrested
When Aldon, 24, approached Transportation Security Agency checkpoint for Terminal 1 at LAX Airport, he was randomly selected for secondary screening, SFGate reported.
“The suspect then became belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent, making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding toward the gate area,” Sgt. Karla Ortiz said in a statement about the occurence, which all took place around 2:00 PM. While police said he appeared to be drunk, Sgt. Ortiz said that was “not relevant or a factor for his arrest and booking.”
In the video of the arrest, obtained by TMZ, Aldon tells police that he’s innocent, no law was broken and that they’re going to be “embarrassed.”
Aldon was taken to an LAPD station near the airport where he was booked on felony charges of falsely reporting a bomb threat. Aldon posted $20,000 bail and was released at 7:00 PM.
Aldon’s Shaky Criminal Past
This is just the latest in Aldon’s battle with the police. In January 2012, he got a DUI, then in June, he was stabbed when he attempted to break up a fight at his home. In September 2013, he was charged with another DUI. Then a month later, he was charged with three felony charges for illegal possession of a weapon from his 2012 incident.
“We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith. As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment,” General Manager for the 49ers, Trent Baalke said in a statement.
