First George W. Bush, now Hillary? During a speech on metal recycling at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on April 10, the former Secretary of State got the Iraqi news conference treatment, as an impassioned woman chucked her shoe on stage and barely missed Hillary’s head. Watch the shocking video below!
Who throws a shoe? Honestly!? Everyone at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries conference was asking just that when a woman hurled a heel right at the keynote speaker, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Thankfully, Hillary dodged the flying shoe and handled the shocking attack with humor and class.
Hillary Rodham Clinton Gets A Shoe Thrown At Her
“Was that a bat!?” Hillary exclaimed at first. But it quickly became clear that it was not a flying animal, because a woman in a blue dress was walking quickly towards the door of the conference room with her arms in the air.
Hillary then shifted her talk on waste management into an impromptu stand-up act. “Is somebody throwing something at me? Is that a part of Cirque du Soleil?” she joked. “My goodness, I didn’t know that solid waste management was so controversial. Good thing she didn’t play softball like me.” The hundreds in attendance broke out into laughter and applauded Hillary fervently. And just like that, the 2016 presidential hopeful owned what could have been a controversial moment.
The shoe-thrower, a blonde whose name has not been revealed, was taken into custody and will face criminal charges, a Secret Service supervisory agent told the Associated Press. She reportedly also threw a piece of paper, a copy of a Department of Defense document labeled confidential from August 1967.
Another Shoe Thrown At A Politician
Surprisingly, this sort of sole-chucking has a precedent. If you’ll remember, President George W. Bush got two shoes thrown at him by a man during a press conference in Iraq in 2008. Bush, like Hillary, was able to dodge the clogs, after which he also laughed off the whole thing.
Suddenly that incident seems more reasonable though, because the Iraqi invasion was definitely more of a heated subject than waste management will ever be!
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are you shocked someone threw a shoe at Hillary? How do you think she handled it? Let us know!
