‘The Simpsons’ are getting a new home — well kind of. The longest running cartoon in TV history will launch on Fox’s FXX network with a 12-day marathon in August.
The Simpsons are traveling to FXX and network officials are also making an app to go with what could easily be the “longest running marathon in TV history.”
‘The Simpsons’ Launches On FXX With A 12-Day Marathon
Jon Landgraf, chief executive of FX Networks revealed at an upfront presentation in New York, on April 9, that The Simpsons app is expected to debut in the next couple of weeks. However, FX Networks spokesman John Solberg said a name for the mobile feature had “not formalized yet.”
The presentation also revealed that The Simpsons app will be very different from the FXNow mobile-viewing application already available, reports Variety.
“Think of it as a comprehensive, beautifully curated digital library of all things ‘Simpsons,’” Jon said . “I’m absolutely blown away by what I’ve seen. This could well be the best app I have ever seen.”
The sale of the series to FXX was valued at more than $750 million over the life of the deal — an astronomical selling price for syndication, according to Variety.

Since the show’s debut on December 17, 1989, The Simpsons have had more than 547 episodes and is in its 25th season. The TV show is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated program, and in 2009 it surpassed Gunsmoke as the longest-running American primetime, scripted television series.
