Lacey Holsworth & Adreian Payne: MSU Honors Fallen Fan
Even as she died in her parents arms at their home in St. Johns, Mich. on April 8, Lacey was smiling. Hopefully, this brought comfort to college basketball star Adreian Payne, who often referred to the little girl as his “sister.”
Adreian, a student at Michigan State University, befriended the little girl two years ago when his team paid a visit to the hospital she was staying in at the time. After that, they text messaged every day, and Lacey gained her own loyal fan following when Adreian brought her along to MSU Spartans games all over the country.
Now that she’s gone, her memory lives on through Adreian and the students of MSU. They rallied together and painted her name on giant rock that is featured on their campus, and Adreian, along with the rest of the MSU Spartans, stopped by to sign the rock in Lacey’s honor. A touching tribute for a little girl who inspired Adreian and so many others.
Hundreds of students gathered together at the rock shortly after 9pm on April 9, and they sang the song “Shadows” in Lacey’s honor.

Lacey’s official Instagram was also updated by her family with a touching photo of her blowing a kiss.
“Princess Lacey has achieved the ultimate victory. She now dances among angels…. The world is a better place because you were in it. Our hearts are broken. We love you Doll. Dance all night… Mommy and Daddy, Will, Mitchell, and Luke,” her family captioned the photo.
Our continued thoughts are with Lacey’s family, along with Adreian and his MSU family.
