Fans went absolutely crazy on April 7, when Ed Sheeran finally released his song, ‘Sing’ that was produced by Pharrell — and we get why. Listen to the new hit here!
Ed Sheeran, 23, debuted his new single during the BBC radio show, Radio 1 with Zane Lowe, and even called it his “best music” ever. While it shows off a completely different side of Ed than we’ve ever heard, we can definitely hear the influence that Pharrell has on the new hit, that he produced.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Sing’ — It Almost Didn’t Happen
The first thing we thought of when hearing the song was that it sounded a bit like Justin Timberlake — andthat wasn’t an accident!
“It was pretty close to a direct inspiration,” he told Billboard magazine of Justin’s Justified and FutureSex/LoveSounds albums. However, when Pharrell introduced Ed to his first ever pre-existing track, he was hesitant.
“He was like, ‘Nah, I love it, but it’s not for me,'” Pharrell told the magazine. “And I said, ‘Just give me a shot. Pick up your guitar and strum along with it for a little bit, and see what happens.'”
Apparently that worked!
Pharrell: Ed Sheeran Is ‘Impressive’ & ‘Underrated’
“So, after figuring out the chords that I had laid down, in between jokes and people coming in with coffee, he kept playing it, and he looked up at me, like, ‘Sh–, is this really happening?’ as I’m looking at him with an ‘I told you so’ smile. Thirty minutes later, the song was pretty much finished,” he continued.
While this is a much different sound than we’re used to hearing from “The A Team” singer, it’s nice to have a variety!
“He’s one of the most impressive, underestimated singer-songwriters of our time,” Pharrell added. “And now he’s got a dance record. I say ‘dance’ not because it’s electronica, but because it’s danceable. And he was able to still tell a really good story on top of it.”
Listen to Ed’s new song, “Sing,” then let us know — is this his best song ever?
