Another new song, another new crush. Drake continued the tradition of using his music to hit on girls by gawking at Jennifer Lawrence in his new track “Draft Day.” But now that the rapper has a GIRLFRIEND (ahem, Rihanna), don’t you think it’s time he stopped flirting with everything that moves?
Drake‘s a flirt, I get it. But it might be time for the rapper to tone down his natural charm, because he shouldn’t be allowed to introduce Rihanna as his girlfriend and say that he wants to give it to Jennifer Lawrence at the same time. It’s just not fair to RiRi. So if Drizzy wants to keep her, he needs to keep his eyes on the prize and make it clear who his number one chick is.
Drake Raps About Hot Celebs — What About Rihanna?
Drake’s latest flirting on the side moment came in his song “Draft Day,” which hit the internet on April 1. Though most of the track seems to be a subtle response to Jay Z‘s diss, towards the end of his freestyle Drake raps:
On some Hunger Games s**t, I would die for my district
Jennifer Lawrence you can really get it
I mean for real, girl you know I had to do it for ya
It isn’t the first time Drizzy has used a song to hit on a famous lady. Just a month ago his guest verse on YG‘s “Who Do You Love” sent a very sexual message to Selena Gomez: “I’mma crush that a** even if it ain’t too big.” And in the 2013 song “Tuscan Leather,” Drake revealed his love for Nicki Minaj:
I love Nicki Minaj
I told her I’d admit it
I hope one day we get married just to say we f**king did it
Now, we’ll give Drake a pass on that last one because he was single when he was making Nothing Was the Same. But he definitely was NOT on his own for his Selena and JLaw raps — our girl RiRi was by his side! Drizzy may be used to name-dropping female celebrities whenever he feels like it, but he can’t get away with that anymore. All that changed the second he began introducing Rihanna as his girlfriend.
Drake: Take Notes From Jay Z On How To Treat A Woman
Drake needs to switch up his approach to rap now that he’s wifed up with RiRi — it’s just the respectful thing to do, and Drake rapping about Jennifer Lawrence “getting it” just makes both of them look really bad. Even if Rihanna is giving Drizzy the OK to name-check other girls, you have to think that deep down it hurts her, and it’ll probably hurt her more and more if he keeps doing it.
It should be up to Drake to realize this and adjust accordingly.
And for those of you giving Drake a pass because he’s just a rapper, and thats what rappers do, I present to you Jay Z. Jay used to have songs called “Big Pimpin'” and “Girls, Girls, Girls,” but now that he’s married to Beyonce, she’s pretty much the only thing he spits about. As early as 2003, Jay Z had gone from rap-flirting to beaming about Bey: “Got the hottest chick in the game wearing my chain,” he rapped on “Public Service Announcement.”
This is the approach Drake should be taking. He’s got Rihanna — literally one of the hottest women in the world — so why isn’t he talking about that? Rapping about their sexy relationship or even flat-out bragging that she loves him and only him would make him sound and look a lot cooler than singing about hot random celebrities.
Don’t you agree, HollywoodLifers? Let me know.
