Did you get called a nerd in school? Well, if you did, actor Wil Wheaton has shared some insight into why bullies call other children bad names.

Wil Wheaton’s Response To Being Called A Nerd

At the June 2013 Denver Comic-Con, Wil, 41, participated in a panel where he answered questions from the audience. One little audience member stood up to ask Wil if he had ever been called a nerd, and how he dealt with that. The little girl melted the audience’s heart, but Wil’s speech stole the show.

The video of Wil answering her question with an inspiring speech at the panel has recently surfaced and gone viral.

“When I was a little boy I was called a nerd all the time because I didn’t like sports, I loved to read, I liked math and science, and I thought school was really cool,” Wil started to explain. “It hurt a lot, because it’s never okay when a person makes fun of you for something that you didn’t choose. We didn’t choose to be nerds. We can’t help it that we like these things, and we shouldn’t apologize for liking these things.”

Watch the full video above to hear Wil’s complete speech, which is truly touching.
