Down the rabbit hole, she goes! ABC has officially pulled the plug on ‘Once Upon A Time’ spinoff, ‘Once Upon A Time In Wonderland’. Will you miss Alice?
Once Upon A Time In Wonderland has officially been cancelled, airing it’s final episode on Thursday, April 3rd. The series, inspired by the classic tale of Alice In Wonderland, lasted just 13 episodes.
‘Once Upon A Time In Wonderland’ Officially Cancelled
Once Upon A Time In Wonderland will wrap up its short-lived run this Thursday, April 3 (8/7c), after just one 13-episode season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The spinoff starred British actress Sophie Lowe as Alice.
“The decision to not move forward with the 13-episode spinoff — from Once creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis — comes after the series was originally envisioned as a miniseries intended to bridge the gap between seasons of the flagship series,” reveals The Hollywood Reporter, in light of ABC advertising next week’s April 3rd episode as the series finale.
Rather than airing as a miniseries, the Once spinoff landed in the fall of 2013 in the troubled Thursday 8:00 p.m. time slot, which has a history of harboring cancelled shows. “Last Resort, Charlie’s Angels, Missing, My Generation and FlashForward have similarly stumbled,” the magazine reports, adding, “ABC has struggled to launch a hit in the time period since Ugly Betty moved from the 8 p.m. hour in 2009.”
This comes as no surprise, as the series’ ratings drastically dropped throughout it’s run. The premiere on October 10, 2013 drew 5.82 million viewers, while the most recently aired episode held an audience of just 3.51 million.
While we will miss Alice and co., we will remain weekly visitors to Storybrooke — Once Upon A Time still remains a hit! (We sure hope this wasn’t the doing of the Wicked Witch!)
